Members of the Board of the Recognition Panel

This is a unique opportunity to play a leading role in the establishment of an effective system of press self-regulation which both protects a free and independent press and provides appropriate public confidence in the system.

We are seeking to appoint between 4 and 8 individuals with confidence, independence, resilience and experience, born of a significant track record in their chosen field of operation to join the Board of the Recognition Panel.

The Board of the Recognition Panel is established by Royal Charter in the light of the Leveson Report.  It has four principal functions:-

  • Determining applications for recognition from press industry Regulators;
  • Reviewing whether a Regulator which has been granted recognition shall continue to be recognised;
  • Withdrawing recognition from a Regulator where the Recognition Panel is satisfied that the Regulator ceases to be entitled to recognition; and
  • Reporting on any success or failure of the recognition system.

Once in place the Board will need to decide how it will fulfil the functions it has been given by the Charter and where best to locate its operations.
