I have an exciting opportunity for a Multilingual Junior Buyer to join one of the UK's longest established food importers/distributors. With suppliers mainly based in Italy, Spain & Greece, you will have the ability to speak atleast one of these languages fluently.
They are an extremely successful family run business with a family feel where all employees are valued and respected. This is a great chance for a candidate who has had exposure to the industry and are looking for a progressive career in Procurement.

Duties of the role include:

• Breakdown of tasks is as follows: sourcing new suppliers (10%); raising purchase orders (20%); managing inventory levels and related paperwork (50%); and negotiating prices with suppliers (20%).
• Timely creation of weekly supplier orders in line with defined stock holding policies, replenishment plans, customer forecasts and cycles.
• Proactively minimise customer service problems arising from stock availability.
• Constant assessment of forecasts and planning methodologies to ensure sufficient stock availability and lower working capital requirements.
• Create and maintain excellent working relationships with suppliers and customers (both internal and external).
• Travel to suppliers’ offices for business reviews and negotiations.
• Staying abreast of market trends for the ingredients being bought.
• Proactive communication of service level issues to customer services and commercial teams.
• Ensure new stock product codes are set up and maintained accurately.
• Input all received stock into the ERP system.
• To ensure suppliers KPI’s are analysed and met on a monthly basis.
• Source new products according to business needs and aligned to the NPD strategy.
• Product costing for price quotes.
• Any other duties requested by Procurement Manager to meet the changing needs of the business.
• Reducing slow selling stock value to max. £250k or less than 3 months’ worth of stock whichever is lower.
• Zero-based stock outs.
• Zero-based demurrage charges.
• Soft feedback from internal and external customers.

Attributes needed for this role include:

• Experience of sourcing raw material food ingredients from global suppliers, including negotiating prices and ordering stock
• Understanding of stock control tools, FIFO and the importance of shelf life and traceability.
• Awareness of the connection between purchasing, operations and sales so that the wider picture is appreciated.
• Passionate about food and working within the food industry.
• Experienced with client visits abroad.
• Fluent in Italian and / or Spanish and / or Greek and English with excellent communication skills.
• Degree educated.
• Highly numerate.
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
• A good Can do attitude is essential.
