The client based in East London is a manufacturer of fashion related products and accessories that support merchandising and point of sale. They are currently recruiting for a new Financial Controller to join their business. Reporting to the Managing Director, the role will support the leadership team to implement robust controls and provide appropriate data to maximise growth and profitability.

Role Description:

Key areas of responsibility will include:

  • Management of a team of 3 staff (2 full time and one part time)

  • Driving the annual budgeting process and validating overhead and cost inputs across the different business divisions

  • Monthly reporting and analysis (management accounts, year-on-year comparisons, KPI reporting etc.)

  • Management of the year-end auditing process and production of statutory accounts across the Holding and Operating Company

  • Management of sales and purchase ledger, daily treasury process & covenant reporting, general cash flow and various bank/debt facilities including invoice discounting

  • Overseeing payroll and auto-enrolment pension schemes

  • Setting appropriate internal control policies and ensuring robust controls are in place across the business

  • Reviewing current systems and processes, implementing new ones to align with current growth strategy

  • Assist in managing and negotiating non factory overheads

  • Continued development of improved MIS to ensure better financial data

  • Developing a seamless costing process, costing new collections and ad-hoc costings for bespoke items

  • Participation in major projects across the business and providing financial support to all ad-hoc projects

  • Support MD in all financial matters and provide input on financial risk management

Experience & Skills Required:

  • Full accounting qualification (ACA, CIMA or ACCA) with at least 3 years experience within a manufacturing organisation in a Finance Manager or Financial Controller position

  • Knowledge and experience of Sage 200 (other systems a bonus)

  • Strong technical accounting knowledge including FRS102, revenue recognition, R&D tax credits and capital allowances awareness

  • Familiarity with different funding facilities including invoice discounting

  • Fully proficient in Microsoft Access, Excel and financial modelling

  • Strong inter-personal skills and an ability to work with all levels of the business, from Board to Senior Management to Shop Floor

  • Ability to manage a small team and multi-task

  • Strong work ethic with a proactive approach to recommending improvements in business practices and processes
