Job Title: Business Development Consultant (Marketing)

Tempest Resourcing are recruiting on behalf of an educational institution who are looking to appoint a Business Development Consultant.

As one of the fastest growing departments, the Marketing Department supports organisations with their educational marketing activities; ranging from creating brand identity to developing communications strategies, producing creative, managing activation and reporting.

We are looking for an experienced Sales or Business Development professional to contribute to the future growth of the department. This will be achieved through growing the client base with brands wanting to communicate their programmes and products to schools as well as by exploring newer categories, such as Higher Education, School Leaver programmes, Apprenticeships and Publishing.

Key areas of responsibility:

Working within the Business Development Team and reporting directly to the Head of Business Development, the successful candidate will have specific responsibility for identifying and pursuing new business opportunities for the Marketing Department.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Researching and generating new leads and opportunities
  • Working towards sales targets, tracking and recording sales activity
  • Prospecting and selling educational marketing and communication solutions to new clients
  • Building successful relationships with new clients and prospects
  • Planning approaches and pitches, working with the team to develop proposals that speak to the client’s needs, concerns, and objectives.
  • Working with the Business Development team on broader business development prospects and proposals which require a marketing input
  • Working with the Marketing Director to develop a more advanced strategic thinking model for Marketing
  • Collaborating with Marketing team colleagues to develop new offers and channels for all clients
  • Working with the Research team to identify impact or insight evidence for Business Development opportunities
  • Preparing reports for Business Development and Marketing teams
  • Attend external events on behalf of the institution and provide feedback and information on market and creative trends

Team structure:

Although this role sits within the Business Development Team, the successful candidate will also work closely with the Marketing Team. This will include regular meetings with the Marketing Director to discuss/review strategy, report on progress and present results.

The successful candidate should have:

  • A knowledge of the Education market and a passion for Education
  • A proven track record in successfully selling a range of marketing and communications products and services
  • Experience in developing communication and marketing strategies
  • The ability to think creatively and to apply this to identifying potential clients and services
  • A proactive and positive attitude
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Strong teamwork skills
  • Confidence to work independently, as well as part of a larger team
  • Good negotiation skills
  • A flexible approach
  • Digitally literate
