Did you know that Royal Voluntary Service is a charity that runs retail shops and cafés in over 200 hospitals throughout Great Britain? Or that we sell more than 5 million hot drinks and 2.3 million sandwiches every year? As well as providing refreshment to thousands of patients, visitors and staff each year; our shops and cafés are a vital source of funding for the charity.
The charity has a turnover in excess of £50 million, with over 34,000 volunteers and 1,400 employees with a goal of ensuring that in a rapidly ageing population, we are on hand to provide and develop services to support and promote the contribution older people make to society.
This exciting and challenging role offers the opportunity to lead, coach and develop a team of dedicated volunteers and employees to deliver a highly-valued service within a high footfall hospital environment.
As a Retail Manager, you will be responsible for maintaining both the overall profitability of the service and driving the highest possible customer service standards. This will involve, but will not be restricted to, maximising shop turnover, managing stock control to minimise stock loss / waste while managing and promoting great customer service to ensure the café / shop fulfils its potential.
It would be beneficial if, as a candidate, you have experience of managing a retail or food related service, a good awareness of managing finances and a proven ability to work on your own initiative without supervision.
Candidates should possess excellent organisational, communication and IT skills, including a good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. You will be confident at meeting and networking with external stakeholders with the aim of creating new opportunities to expand and grow our services.
We are keen to appoint a candidate with experience of managing and inspiring people, while being able to continually drive business performance.
If you feel you can engage and motivate people, while positively supporting the direction and vision of our charity, then we would love to hear from you.
This is a full time position, working 35 hours per week (flexible 5 days out of 7) which may sometimes include weekend work. Due to the nature of our services, it is often necessary for a Retail Manager to undertake a full DBS/PVG check.
Additional Information We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable adults. Applicants should be aware that the post will only be offered to successful candidates subject to pre-employment checks.
