Acorn is recruiting for a Mechanical Engineer for a leading electronic manufacturer in Cardiff.

Salary - £22,000 to £28,000 pa (depending on experience)

Working hours - Mon to Thurs 0745-1630 & Fri 0745-1330

Role Objective:-
Mechanical Engineer with technical responsibility for identified cost reduction and quality improvement projects. Provide technical expertise to resolve issues and support other team members and team leader as required

Degree level qualification or equivalent in an Engineering or Product Design based discipline desirable but not essential. Plus relevant industry experience. Graduates will be considered.

Key responsibilities:-
*Control the implementation of cost reduction ideas. Implement design and quality improvements to plastic, metal and glass components
*Working with other teams to deliver the product(s) into production; liaise with other teams/customers/suppliers to work towards a common goal
*Adhere to applicable regulations, company policies and quality systems; Provide evidence that the relevant customer, and General Product safety directives
*Produce and develop technical documentation; Provide technical expertise to resolve issues and coordinate development issues. Whilst providing detailed reports of all testing and development work
*Plan and undertake testing to evaluate the cost reduction and quality improvements; Work with other team members to produce the evaluation plans. Identify countermeasures and improvements for issues such as evaluation failures and changes in requirements
*Support the Team Leader; Assist in the production of cost requirements including sample and tooling costs
*Provide necessary information for relevant meetings (weekly cost reduction meeting) and technical and strategic meetings both internal and external.
*Actively work towards the generation of continuous improvement ideas to influence quality improvement or cost reductions to achieve improvement objectives
*Adhere to health and safety policy

Knowledge, Skills and Experience required:-
*Component design (plastic & sheet metal)
*Assembly design
*Drafting - dimensioning & tolerance
*Understanding of manufacturing processes (injection moulding/metal pressing)
*Materials selection
*Product and component evaluation
*Knowledge of project management processes
*Knowledge of Kaizen, six sigma, lean processes
*MS Office
*Presentation and communication skills
*High level problem solving skills with the ability to efficiently resolve technical issues
*Knowledge of HAD R&D processes and documentation (Desirable)
*High Level 3D CAD skills preferably CATIA V5 and ENOVIA
*Some travel may be required to overseas countries
