Manager: Malpractice Investigations and Appeals

Fixed term contract until 31 August 2017

Starting salary: £44,201

Location: Guildford

We are an independent education charity and the largest provider of academic qualifications taught in schools and colleges in England.

We set and mark the papers for around half of all GCSEs and A-levels taken each year. Our qualifications are internationally recognised and taught in 30 countries around the world. Our main offices are in London, Guildford and Manchester.

We are looking to recruit a Manager to join our Malpractice Investigations and Appeals department in Guildford.

This role is ideally suited, but not limited to, a teacher or an individual from a criminal investigation/legal background looking for a new challenge!

Reporting to the Head of Performance Standards and working with a team of case handlers, you will take responsibility for investigating allegations of malpractice and deciding the appropriate course of action, ensuring a consistent and fair approach.

The role requires you to:

• Collate weekly progress reports

• Ensure total compliance with 'Condition of Recognition’

• Conduct Stage 1 & Stage 2 appeals

• Represent AQA’s case at appeals hearings

• Assist with EaR (Enquiry about Results) appeals where necessary

• Play a senior role within AQA’s Safeguarding team

• Be a point of contact for schools/colleges/candidates/parents with regard to appeals against decisions made by AQA

• Continuously support the department’s objectives, provide ongoing improvement solutions in line with AQA’s policies and analyse business resources, all with budget in mind

About you:

• Ability to travel at short notice, valid UK driving licence and the use of a car

• Broad knowledge of education and assessment systems

• Logical and analytical mindset

• Self-starter with an eye to accuracy

• Ability to investigate, gather and review evidence and to take decisions

• A persuasive verbal and written communicator, allowing you to confidently represent AQA at appeals

• Proactive, agile, customer focused, ability to support, advise and negotiate effectively

• Experience of managing a department/team an advantage

• Educated to degree or equivalent qualification or relevant experience for the role
