How we work

We are Action for Children, who each year help the lives of 390,000 children, young people and families. Our offer of 25 Children's Centres across Buckinghamshire, support families with children under 5 through case work, targeted group work and universal services. Our work includes the delivery of an Early Years Short Breaks Service which provides support for disabled children and their families. The children who attend the service have diverse needs, and staff will provide care in meeting all those needs including personal care and the administration of medication as required.

How you’ll make a difference

We are now looking for a Children’s Services Practitioner to join our team. Your role will be to ensure sessions are well planned and evaluated, offering a range of experiences which promote learning through play and social interactions in accordance with the Early Years Framework. You will support and lead a small team of children centre workers in this model, leading the delivery of each short breaks session, ensuring the service meets health and safety requirements and operates in accordance with our policies.

What you’ll need:

  • Level 3 Childcare/Early Years qualification is essential.
  • You will have a good standard of education including GCSE’s at grade C or above for English and Maths (or equivalent) and be competent in using IT systems.
  • You will have access to your own transport and be able to travel between locations for this county wide service.
  • You will be able to demonstrate skills in engaging with children and families, safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the child, and working within a multi-agency framework.
  • You will need to demonstrate a strong understanding of equality and diversity, specifically in relation to the needs of disabled children and their families.
  • You will need to be flexible with your working pattern as the role operates between Tuesday and Saturdays.
