Assistant Business Developer, Persian Gulf and Central Asia

Introduction

SOCAR Trading was established in late 2007 as the Geneva-based marketing arm of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR). Since then SOCAR Trading has additionally developed a significant presence in the international oil trading markets and in 2015 set up a UK trading operation, SOCAR Trading (UK) Limited, which is now an active participant in the global oil markets.

Objective and responsibilities

The main objective of this role is to help with the development of SOCAR Trading’s business in the Persian Gulf and Central Asian regions, with a particular focus on the Iranian oil, gas and petrochemical markets. Working with a small team of business development specialists located in London and other SOCAR Trading offices, the Assistant Business Developer role will require extensive travel throughout the region; more than 6 months a year will be spent in the region, mostly in Iran.

More specifically, the responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Identify and provide ongoing assessments of business development opportunities in Iran to business development specialists on other SOCAR Trading offices,
  • Analysis of regional production data, refinery operation data, refining margins, trade flows, loading programs, supply/demand balances and market pricing data,
  • Perform market analysis and research primary focus on monitoring oil and gas activity within the Persian Gulf/Central Asian regions and related markets,
  • Coordination of daily news and market updates for the Persian Gulf/Central Asian regions and distribution to other SOCAR Trading offices.

Experience requirements

Previous experience in an energy/chemicals trading or financial markets environment is required. Experience of working in Iran would be a significant advantage.

Skill requirements

Degree: MBA or equivalent and/or an oil or petrochemicals related degree is required.

Languages: Verbal and written fluency in English is required. Verbal and written fluency in Persian is an advantage.
