Company profile:

  • A Health and Cosmetic Manufacturer based in Stockport who supply perfumeries, pharmacies and department stores are looking for a Assistant Buyer to join their team.

Job Title:

  • Senior Buyer

Job Summary:

  • To build and expand on the company brand renowned for its specialist expertise and quality products. Setting creative direction, product innovation and ranging strategy across all selling channels globally. Grow existing relationships and look to continually source a wider supplier base. Identify future product innovation and range extensions to move the category and brand forward. Assist in the new development of a product right through to the final production. This includes; product development, sample development, component sourcing, technical testing, artwork implication and purchase order processing. Trend aware and translate into relevant successful product. Management of the buying team.

General responsibilities and accountabilities:

  1. Agree product strategy, stock and margin budgets with CEO - ensure these are met by your team.
  2. Ensure Completion of all administrative functions to support the business.
  3. Build effective relationships with suppliers through a high level of interaction.
  4. Liaise with factories on a daily basis, answering all queries on behalf of the company.
  5. Attend and represent the business at trade shows both in the UK and overseas.
  6. Complete special projects and associated duties as assigned.
  7. Arrange and Attend supplier meetings

Product development responsibilities and accountabilities:

  1. Assist CEO with new product development.
  2. Research all aspects of the Health and Beauty market in order to evaluate market trends and produce ideas for new products and ranges.
  3. Liaise with the design team and other members of the buying team during development stages of new products ensuring the customer is at the forefront of decision making.
  4. Competitive shop and monitor market changes.
  5. Analyse consumer buying patterns and predict future trends to forecast future buys and production schedule.
  6. Work with team to produce detailed design briefs and mood boards for chosen ideas.
  7. Ensure the set up product files creating product and artwork briefs for each new product and ensure and necessary information in entered correctly onto the company in-house intranet system and netsuite. Ensuring set up is checked and correct prior to sending to suppliers for costing.
  8. Clearly brief factories on new development/ project ideas using intranet and range plans.

Sampling process responsibilities and accountabilities:

  1. Arrange, chase and co-ordinate factory samples from initial to production and manage sample library accordingly with buying team.
  2. Co-ordinate delivery of all required components and packaging samples from each factory that make up the salesperson samples.
  3. Request and collate product detail information from factories.
  4. Manage the approval process for components and packaging providing feedback to suppliers on initial, pre-production and production samples.
  5. Liaise with all suppliers to obtain updated production/delivery schedules and record accordingly, updating team and business with any issues.
  6. Manage the proofing of all artwork produced, sample and final for content and correct construction.

Price negotiations responsibilities and accountabilities:

  1. Request quotations and gather pricing from factories.
  2. Make sure the factory has all the necessary information /specification to provide accurate quotations.
  3. Manage the current supply base and develop the sourcing network where required.
  4. Record all relevant costs in central location and ensure system is up to date.
  5. Place PO’s on all daily care and gifting ensuring sales acknowledgments are received.
  6. Manage price changes and negotiate to ensure agreed pricing architecture is achieved.
  7. Ensure company NDA and T&C’s are signed and returned by all suppliers.


  1. Approve goods to ship to UK, Fob overseas and customer specials.
  2. Liaise with Freight Company to ensure goods on track and bookings are made as and when required.
  3. Co-ordinate and schedule deliveries of components out to factories from their core suppliers and manage the project throughout keeping all parties involved updated.
  4. Check product/component delivery dates and update production schedule to ensure timely delivery of product in to the warehouse.
  5. Ensure all deliveries leave as scheduled.
  6. Liaise with QA regarding production samples.
  7. Liaise with sales teams to ensure they are up to date with stock availability.


  • Must have had previous senior buying experience within the beauty & daily care industry.


  • Up to £50,000 pa depending on experience.
  • Monday to Friday 08:00 - 16:30 (2:30pm finish on Friday’s)
