About the role

The purpose of the role is to determine the logical design characteristics and information management strategies necessary to implement a data information service architecture. This role will be responsible for the creation, management and evolution of an Enterprise Data Model along with multiple application data models The role is responsible for the analysis, technical design and build of our enterprise data information services using a number of technologies but predominantly Microsoft based technologies.

Capita Education Software services produces SIMS, SIMS develops and markets MIS software for Schools in the UK and abroad. The SIMS Solutions department covers Development, Product Management and Partners. We have approx. 250 specialised technologist staff including 30 offshore split between Product, Project Management, Development, Test and Business Analysis.

What you will do:

- Design and shape the business intelligence data architecture, ensuring high performance of the delivered project by rationalising data processing, and ensuring the design meets industry best practices.

- Design and shape the BIG DATA and predictive analytics approach

- Design and shape the physical data model, in multiple data storage platforms ( MS SQL, No SQL, Table Store, Hadoop)

- Architect and create a blueprint for an enterprise level data and information architecture.

- Design the database, data models, ETL processes, and data warehouse applications through the use of best practices and tools, including SQL and SSIS.

- Work with third party BI solution providers where necessary to incorporate any suggested design improvements or factors, and ensure that the identified data structure is resilient, flexible and scalable.

- Support the implementation of the appropriate data architecture for existing and new development, and supporting the development of any new data warehouses ( 200+TB) , data marts, data transformation and data extracts.

Essential Skills:

- Strong technical skills with all data warehousing technologies (e.g., ETL, ODS, DBMS, BI)

- Strong technical skills and experience in selecting and modelling logical data models into the appropriate physical store ( SQL, No SQL, Hadoop, )

- Microsoft SQL server

- Strong experience working with Application development teams to select the appropriate data store and producing an appropriate data model

- Strong experience of requirements analysis, modelling and producing fit for purpose visualisations

- Modelling of transactional or analytical systems

- Master data management

- Ability to support and build data based applications

- Knowledge of BI and analytics, as well as of structured data, such as entities, classes, hierarchies, relationships and metadata

- Knowledge of modelling structured, Semi-structured and non-structured data

- Conceptual, logical and physical modelling for rationalising data objects


- Some overseas travel required approx. 4-6 business trips per year each between one and two week duration
