Family Paralegal Job Description
To read and understand the office manual
To open Family files in accordance with the office manual
To ensure client care letters are generated and sent out within 7 working days from the opening of the case.
To ensure the client files are fully LAA/SQM compliant
To attend to enquiries and clients in the family department.
To have own caseload and to work closely under supervision in relation to casework.
To ensure ALL correspondence sent out is checked with the Supervisor and any important correspondence is dealt with promptly and correctly.
Where issues arise on cases to inform the supervisor immediately as to the next steps.
To book appointments in the office, outside venues and police stations.
To see clients in court, by video link or in the office as and when required.
Instructing counsel, agents and experts when required.
To manage files for costing for the purposes of the Legal Aid agency for family and keep a record of concluded files and chase any issues outstanding on any file.
Understand the case management system (LEAP) ensuring it is used for all document storage and correctly used for time and fees being added daily.
To ensure legal aid documentation is completed and submitted to the appropriate place.
To support fee earners when necessary.
To undertake any other job deemed necessary and appropriate by the members.
Assist in office admin duties such as:
- collection and delivery of the post and DX
- Ordering stationery and managing office supplies
- Managing confidential waste
- Supplier invoice management on Xero
- Updating Zoho
- Dealing with the enquiries inbox
- Dealing with incoming calls / queries
