The DLO Health and Safety Manager is responsible to the Managing Director and manages both the strategic and day to day SHE programme aligned to the business strategy of the in-house property repairs and maintenance business.

Description

  • The primary role of the DLO Health and Safety Manager is to advise the Directors and Managers on all safety, health and welfare matters to ensure the Company complies with its statutory obligations.

  • The position is designated responsibility by the Director responsible for health and safety to control and update all SHE documentation and to ensure that all maintenance functions operate to the procedures and instructions:-

  • In particular the SHE Manager will:

  • Understand the application of the Health and Safety at Work, etc. Act 1974 and other legislation relevant to the Companies business. Ensure the DLO therefore remains compliant with all legislation regarding Health Safety and Environment. Capture and share industry SHE best practice.

  • Keep up to date with changes in current legislation and to bring to the attention of the Director responsible for Health and Safety any relevant new legislation. Ensure DLO SHE procedures are updated and implemented consistently to ensure statutory compliance.

  • Attend such courses/seminars run by external sources to enable accurate interpretation of legislation to enable implementation within the DLO

  • Ensure that all "assessments" as required by legislation are conducted and reviewed at relevant intervals and to maintain records of the same.

  • To recommend control measures and advise on the standard of P.P.E. issued to employees.

  • Conduct health and safety inspections and prepare reports of all aspects of the DLO operation.

  • Immediately contact the Director responsible for health and safety if situations are found, that in the opinion of the SHE Manager, require immediate remedy or the stopping of any operation.

  • To notify the Director responsible for health and safety if the corrective action agreed after any SHE work related incident is not implemented by the agreed date.

  • To carry out investigations into all accidents and near-miss incidents and to record the findings on the relevant forms. Ensure all accidents, incidents and near misses are correctly reported, investigated and agreed actions implemented.

  • To highlight areas where training/certification is required to meet the standards imposed by Legislation, Approved Codes of Practice, or H.S.E. guidance. Charged with working to achieve accreditations.

  • To bring new techniques for improving SHE to the attention of the Director responsible for health and safety.

  • To set a personal example by wearing appropriate personal protective clothing/equipment and observing all safety requirements/procedures when with operatives in the field.

Profile

Degree level (or working towards) in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent.

Chartered SHE professional or equivalent (demonstrable IPD/CPD equivalent)

Detailed understanding of SHE legislation.

Working knowledge of ISO 14001 and BS OHSAS 18001 Standards Extensive experience in similar or supporting post-Leading SHE function in a large organization.
