Hays Accountancy & Finance are currently being retained to recruit for a well-established public sector organisation for an Senior Accounting Technician based in Stroud, Gloucestershire. This hands-on 12 month contract will involve monitoring, controlling and preparing accounts for the General Fund revenue budget and expenditure along with assisting in the implementation of systems. A great opportunity in a varied accounting role where you can really add value within a medium-sized finance team.
Your new role
Reporting into the Senior Accountant your key duties will include budget preparation including annual revenue estimates and consultation with service manager. Budget monitoring and control including maintenance and development of systems, monthly reports for budget holders and quarterly reports. Closure of general fund revenue accounts within year-end timescales including accruals, reconciliations and explanations of variations. You will be expected to provide support and advice on projects along with training others in the use of financial processes/systems.
What you'll need to succeed
For this great opportunity you must have experience within a similar accounting role with knowledge of managing budgets and expenditure along with strong communication skills to liaise with internal/external bodies around the organisation. Ideally you will be AAT Qualified, candidates who are qualified by experience will still be considered for this position. Experience of closing accounts and working through audit process with a self-motivated and enthusiastic approach is key. Intermediate MS Excel skills are essential with the ability to managing work-loads to time-constraint deadlines. It would be advantageous if you have worked within an public sector organisation previously with working knowledge of Agresso finance system.
