Credit Controller (J8615) - Maternity Leave (6-9 months) - Central Bristol - £20,000 per annum

Our central client is seeking an experienced credit controller to join their team and cover a period of maternity leave. This role is responsible for the credit control process and to ensure timely recovery of bills. Applicants must have proven working history within a similar position.

Responsibilities of the role:

  • Using internal systems with regards to the collection of unpaid debts
  • Sending reminder letters to debtors, and following up with defaulters by way of telephone calls, and other written correspondence
  • Using software to record collections activity, and to recognise debts which fall outside of the standard collection processes
  • Arranging instalment payment terms with clients, and monitoring promised payments to ensure clients adhere to agreements
  • Monitoring monies held on client account, and arranging transfers to settle invoices where advised by fee earners
  • Making recommendations to the Credit Manager about improvements to the systems and processes used
  • Meeting internal stakeholders to regularly to discuss overdue debts and problem accounts, informing where they need to take action to bring about payment, reminding them of outstanding actions
  • Supporting the Credit Manager in checking the credit status of new clients, and advising where a deposit on account of costs should be obtained
  • Supporting Cashiers team during busy periods in setting up new clients on core systems
  • Recommending debt recovery action to key parties where standard collection procedures are unsuccessful
  • Obtaining authority for bad debt write offs, completing paperwork, and ensuring that the necessary VAT requirements are complied with
  • Assisting Credit Manager in monthly preparation of bad debt provision
  • Production of ad hoc reports as required
  • Providing assistance to the wider Finance team as required
  • Deputising for the Credit Manager as required during absence
  • Credit control experience, ideally in a professional services organisation but this is not essential.
  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner, including excellent telephone skills and negotiation skills
  • Focused and motivated with the ability to use own initiative and to work as part of a team
  • IT skills including experience in using Microsoft software, with a good working knowledge of Excel
  • The role is based in our Bristol office and can require some travel to the organisation’s other offices
