A growing and ambitious lender in Bridging and development finance is looking for a strong and versatile Head of Underwriting based in their London office. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of mortgage lending, credit risk and regulated lending, coupled with strong leadership skills

Responsibilities - Head of Underwriting

  • Manage and lead the underwriting and case management team
  • Proactively manage a pipeline of applications from receipt to completion
  • Propose developments and enhancements to the lending policy
  • Provide training and guidance on risk matters and encourage knowledge gain
  • Continually appraise staff training and development needs
  • Ensure compliance with the lending and credit policies applicable to the business including management of large exposures and concentration risk
  • Maintain up to date procedures/manuals are developed, evolved, documented and followed to ensure the business is developed in a controlled, measured yet efficient way.
  • Liaise with stakeholders and third parties

Experience required - Head of Underwriting for the position

  • Current or recent experience of holding a senior mandate (Bridging and Development Finance).
  • Strong knowledge in all aspects of credit risk management including customer propositions, credit and finance
  • Good track record of understanding complex business requirements and making decisions considering potential long term risks and implications
  • Strong relationship management skills both internally with stakeholders and externally with third party service providers
  • People management experience

Salary: Circa £65,000 basic plus bens
Location: London
