Trading & Web Merchandising Manager

Salary- £ 25-35k per annum + bonus + pension + product discount + free parking ++

Location- Gloucestershire, commutable from Bristol, Cheltenham, Newport, Wiltshire, Worcestershire.

Ambridge Harris is currently supporting their Gloucestershire based client in recruiting for a Web Merchandiser.

The aim of the role; to maximise rates of sale across all web platforms.


  • Ensuring category sequencing is optimised
  • Identifying under-performing products/categories
  • Auditing same against a checklist of must-have merchandising assets to ensure presence of required assets
  • Escalating under-performing products to Brand, eCom and Purchasing team to review quality of assets
  • Implementing and maintaining correct category merchandising
  • Create and maintain head-to-head price comparisons for key product ranges
  • Alongside Business Analysis Team, identify refinements that can be made to on-site search, categorisation, navigation and filtering to optimise user experience
  • Own and maintain the promotional schedule which will encompass all aspects of promotions; details of the visual assets required, start and end dates, target audience, voucher code/offer dynamic etc, tillpoint product selection etc.
  • Setting out visual merchandising requirements for each promo and ensuring removal of same when promo closes.
  • Agreeing off-site representation of promos (search, e-shots, social media etc)
  • Assess profitability of proposed promotions including all cost-of-sale, fulfilment fees, marketing costs and agency fees.
  • Forecast potential uplift (and required uplift) of promos and coordinate with product team to ensure stock holding is sufficient
  • Identify long stock positions where a price adjustment could be utilised to maximise sell through and optimise stock-turn
  • Ongoing assessment of promo efficacy; sales units, profitability, stock holding etc
  • Compile and deliver regular post-activity analysis to inform future planning.
  • Identify opportunities for new product groups, sets and bundles using sales data and competitor monitoring
  • Suggest refinements to reporting systems to allow faster processing of data and better insights

Skills / Experience

  • High levels of analytical skill
  • Experience of web merchandising, ideally in an FMCG business
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Strong commercial/business acumen
  • Ability to work alongside other departments
  • Experience of reporting at Board, Head of Department and/or MD level
