Would you like to join the UK's largest utility companies? An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Principal Quantity Surveyor to join us.

The successful candidate will be accountable for the delivery of commercial activities of an area of the operational investments or operational spend and lead a specialist team of quantity surveyor and junior quantity surveyors predominantly in the Metering Programme. You will also play a critical role within the department, providing input and direction to, and support for the identification and resolution of generic business and financial issues associated with contracted delivery.

The role of the Principle Quantity Surveyor will involve:

- The production and delivery of estimating and costing for operational solutions.
- The delivery of estimates/target costs and financial reconciliation in a timely manner that meets the contract brief, and are within the budget.
- Producing dashboard reports including any other financial reports as required by the business for the work delivered.
- Taking responsibility for resolving claims, disputes and any other commercial issues associated with the work delivered.
- Monitoring project and/or financial performance and ensure robust forecasting, ensuring that all financial systems are updated to time, cost and quality, appropriate Key Performance Indicators (KPI's and targets are in place, any non-performance identified and corrective actions implemented, benchmarking in place.
- Taking financial accountability for circa £60 million per annum of operational spend.
- The delivery of regulatory/business output, to improve capital efficiency (KPI's) and/or commercial accounting delivery within business plan whilst minimising contract claims and exploit warranties to deliver the programme.
- Taking responsibility for internal and external stakeholder engagement relating directly to project and/or financial.
- Mentoring/Coaching and monitoring progress for the team (Quantity Surveyors and Junior Quantity Surveyors).

What skills are we looking for?
To be successful in this role you will be a Chartered Quantity Surveyor or working towards Charteredship and have a proven background working with contractors, or as a contractor. You will have extensive experience of directly leading and managing teams. You will possess a good knowledge of regulatory frameworks as well as in quantity surveying, estimating and planning. Your ability to lead and develop whilst influencing direct and indirect reports is paramount to succeeding in this position. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with both key internal and external stakeholders is essential, as is knowledge of project delivery.

Salary and location
This role is based at our Head office in central Reading, Berkshire.

We are offering a salary of up to £55,000 per annum depending on skills and experience, plus a range of benefits including an excellent contributory pension scheme, childcare vouchers, season ticket loans and paid volunteering days.

You will be willing to travel on a regular basis, commuting predominately between North London, Thames Valley and Reading, therefore a full driving license is essential for this role.
