Rating Researcher

Salary: £23,500 per annum + 10% bonus

Location: City of London

Hours: Monday to Friday, 9am - 5pm

The primary role of the Rating Researcher is to assist surveyor with Statement of Case production and case research so that individual and business performance targets are achieved.

CVS is a UK leading Business Rent and Rates Specialist regulated by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and has been providing professional and trusted advice to owners and occupiers of commercial properties for the last 16 years, with the specific aim of reducing business rent and rates, two major business costs.

Key Accountabilities

  • Research and produce Statement of Case documentation for submission to the VTS (Valuation Tribunal Service) & VOA (Valuation Office Authority)
  • Research and produce Expert Witness Reports for use at valuation tribunal hearings
  • To be the regional main point of contact for all rating research requests and projects
  • Complete Rating Research projects with diligence and attention to detail
  • To build effective working relationships with Regional Performance Directors and Surveyors
  • Work to strict deadlines and ensure company best practice is always followed
  • To achieve individual targets and team KPI’s based around quality and quantity of research produced
  • Undertake continuous training and keep abreast of rating settlement and case law precedents

Person Specification


  • A good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including; PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and internet applications
  • Degree Educated (or previous relevant experience within Business Rates)
  • Experience working with research related reports or valuations
  • Demonstrable experience of high pressure research orientated environment
  • Experience of working to strict weekly deadlines
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Strong Mathematical skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing across a wide range of audiences
