Role Purpose:

A Private Hospital in London, has a vacancy for a Registered Nurse - Nights to join their team of staff within the Surgical/Oncology Ward.

The Hospital has 5 types of customer, patients, consultants, insurance companies, GP's, staff, each with their own demands and changing dynamics. The Hospital places student nurses

* To demonstrate a consistently high standard of nursing care
* To act as a role model for other members of staff
* To assist in developing and monitoring clinical practice
* To develop knowledge of nursing practice relevant to clinical area
* To provide effective leadership in the absence of the Ward Manager and Senior Staff Nurses
* To promote and safeguard the well-being and interests of all patients, employees and visitors

Core Responsibilities:

* Assess, implement and evaluate nursing care with an evidence based approach, providing a high standard of clinical and customer care to all patients
* To accept responsibility and be professionally accountable for co-ordinating total nursing care for designated patients
* Demonstrate a consistently high standard of nursing care, developing care standards and monitoring their effectiveness
* To work as part of the ward team supporting the Team, Ward Sisters and Manager in terms of clinical, general, management and quality standards
* Promote a patient centred style of clinical practice, maintaining accurate and legible records of patient care
* Ensure the storage and administration of drugs is conducted with adherence to hospital policies
* Participate in the mentorship of HCA's and new starters and assist in the provision of a ward environment conducive to learning
* To participate in the audit of patient care as required through quality assurance programmes implemented at the hospital.
* Be able to initiate hospital emergency procedures
* To abide by NMC Code of Conduct at all times and practice within the NMC Scope of Professional Practice, adhering to Company/Hospital policies and procedures

Key Accountabilities:

* Attend all mandatory training requirements
* Keep up to date with professional issues, promoting evidenced based care and embracing new ideas that influence nursing practice relating to area of practice
* Participate in formal and informal review/appraisal of own performance
* To define own learning and development needs and devise objectives for achieving goals with appraiser
* Contribute to the continuing development of ward as a learning and supportive environment
* Orientate new members of staff
* Act as a role model for other members of staff
* Maintain record evidence of professional development
* Ensure effective use of available resources whilst exercising economy in the use of consumables, promoting an awareness of budgetary implications by demonstrating a full understanding of the charging systems.
* Participate in the investigation of customer complaints or critical incidents
* To develop and maintain effective relationships with all members of the multidisciplinary team
* Participate in the allocation of workload, developing skills in prioritising, team dynamics and contributing to the organisation of the ward with guidance from a more senior nurse

Knowledge / Skills / Qualifications:

* Counselling skills
* Valid NMC Registration
* Registered Nurse Level 1 or 2
* Evidence of professional development within scope of PREPP
* Venepuncture and cannulation skills preferable
