Technical Sales Engineer

We are based in London and looking for someone to join our dynamic, and fast growing team.
Who We Are
Precision Microdrives (PMD) is a fast growing technology company that designs, produces and trades miniature electro-mechanical mechanisms. These motor mechanisms are used in cars, aeroplanes, medical equipment, vending machines, mobile phones, radios etc. PMD is an integral part of the industry supply chain and deal with small, medium and large companies - the market is large and we have plenty of room to grow.
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for a commercially minded engineer to join our sales engineering team. Now, before you click-on because you just heard the word 'sales’, read on to learn a bit more about why it’s not the kind of stereotypical 'sales’ that you might be thinking of.
Our marketing team generates the interest and leads of potential customers; these enquiries then get fed to our sales team. This means that the sales engineer ends up with a technical enquiry that needs to be solved - in short you need to use your technical aptitude and background (electrical, mechanical or electro-mechanical) to solve the problem. You will be expected to deal with new or existing customers.
On an average day you will be expected to do the following:
Liaise with customers via phone or email - understanding their problems and guiding them to off-the-shelf products that provide solutions.
Developing bespoke mechanisms for customers where off-the-shelf options won’t suffice.
Developing proposals and quotations to support customers requirements.
Working with the development engineers to help develop / prove concepts and ideas.
Liaising with teams in our Hong Kong and Shenzhen offices to progress custom solutions for customers where these are required.
Handling some commercial aspects such as quoting for solutions. It’s worth noting that we have several sales team assistants whose job it is handle the sales admin, so the majority of your time will be spent understanding, researching and then solving customer problems.

Requirements & Compensation
£25,000 - £30,000 starting salary plus team based bonus scheme.
Previous experience selling technical products.
You must be able to speak and write English to a native standard.
An ability to speak and write technical information in English to a high standard, if you can do this in a second language that would be highly advantageous.
A technical qualification in electronic, mechanical or mechatronic engineering or very similar discipline will be advantageous.
You must be able to work full-time office hours in our London office (Kennington Oval) and have the necessary visas / work permits to take on a full-time permanent role in the UK.

The Work Environment
We work hard within a friendly and relaxed atmosphere of purposeful activity. We all get stuck-in and help out, but late nights aren’t expected; problems and issues get fixed quickly. We have a decent espresso machine on hand as we have a number of coffee lovers in the office. We take it in turns to choose our favourite Spotify playlist to be played in the background.
Everyone in the team works from their own fully adjustable sit / standing gas-lift desk, a comfy Aeron chair and a powerful PC with triple monitors. Most of our team have an engineering background, and there’s a constant buzz of innovating, reverse engineering, hacking together proof-of-concept solutions and trying to improve both the products we sell, and the way our company runs. We operate Flexi-time based on a 9 hour day with an hour for lunch - so that’s 8-10 am till 5-7pm.
