Senior Purchasing Commodity Manager - Manufacturing

A flexible role to engage the global market place, in the selection of worldwide suppliers who can assist in supporting in the growth & development of products in a manufacturing environment.

  1. Providing leadership on development of the current supplier base and logistics using processes and proven techniques to achieve a world class supply.
  2. To ensure the efficient purchase and control of material at the lowest overall cost, in line with the company purchasing strategy.

Main Tasks of Job:

  • Manage an extensive portfolio of suppliers with a spend of £8M including new contracts.
  • Manage the company’s purchasing strategy
  • Contact & assess suitable vendors of all levels for the development of strategic partnerships.
  • Develop, maintain & audit an approved primary supplier base on their financial stability, commercial, quality & delivery aspects.
  • Support New Product Introduction projects through to implementation.
  • Conduct supplier development meetings/projects in line with the Group needs. Involve NL Fabrications buyer where necessary.
  • Drive & manage company cost down projects across a range of commodities.
  • Develop and maintain ordering methods, rolling delivery schedules, the materials control and purchasing planning parameters on the company’s manufacturing software system.

The above is not an exhaustive list of duties and you will be expected to perform different tasks as necessitated by your changing role within the organisation and the overall business objectives of theorganisation.

Education / Experience:

CIPS Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply qualification or experience equivalent.

Computer literate in Microsoft office and manufacturing software systems (e.g. SAP).

Experience and ability to travel and operate within a global market place.

Conversant with lean manufacturing tools.

  • PPV
  • Open book costing.
  • Rolling schedule deliveries.
  • Supplier Audit processes.
  • Contract negotiation.
  • Inventory reduction


- Salary £37,000-42,000k.

- 40 hours per week 08.00-16.30

- Director discretionary bonus scheme (for indication only) £500 per annum.
