An industry leading Scientific Membership Association is looking for a new business development manager to join their growing team in London.

The client is the trade association for innovative enterprises involved in UK bio-science. Members include start-up, emerging and more established bio-science companies; pharmaceutical companies; academic, research and philanthropic organisations; and service providers to the bio-science sector.

The client works to further the interests of members and the industry both nationally and internationally.


Business Development Manager - Scientific Membership body

The client is looking for an accomplished, professional and highly personable Membership & Business Development Manager to help take its membership strategy forward.

  • The main aim of this role will be to grow the portfolio of existing clients as well as manage existing accounts
  • Whilst you will benefit from incoming leads you will be proactively identifying potential clients whom you will be meeting on a regular basis and selling the benefits of membership
  • You will be keen to work collaboratively as part of a small and effective team, and equally able to work independently/remotely, and make decisions in line with agreed strategies and procedures.
  • A strategic thinker, you will work with the Director of Business Development and Membership Services to develop and implement sales and account management strategies
  • You will work with their business solutions partners to develop these schemes within the membership, and you will explore new business solutions opportunities in line with membership requirements.
  • This role will require regular UK travel, occasional overseas travel (including U.S.) and occasional evening/weekend working.
  • Flexible/home working will be considered if required

Business Development Manager - Scientific Membership body

  • A confident self-starter, with the presence and experience to enable effective face to face communications with members and prospective members, mainly at C-level.
  • 3 - 5 years of prior experience in a relevant business development role or in corporate membership engagement,
  • Drive and sensitivity to succeed in engaging prospects and closing membership sales.
  • Degree-level qualification in, or solid work experience within life sciences and/or have a proven ability to grasp an overview of complex scientific principles quickly.
  • A business qualification and/or proven experience of strategic business thinking would also be an advantage
  • A strategic and relationship-driven sales or membership professional with relevant experience, willing to work collaboratively to help grow an ambitious organisation within an innovative and exciting sector.

Job Offer

A basic salary of £35,000 - £40,000 plus bonus and benefits
