Our client a leading Social housing based across London and the Midlands are looking to appoint a SHEQ Manager in Derby.

The SHE Manager will manage both the strategic and day to day SHE programme aligned to the business strategy of organisations property repairs and maintenance business.

The SHE Manager will directly deliver and enhance the overall SHE strategy and embed the safety management suite within the organisation and ensure performance meets core operational, statutory and Central Service requirements.
Main accountabilities

The primary role of the Safety Manager is to advise the Directors and Managers on all safety, health and welfare matters to ensure the Company complies with its statutory obligations.

The SHE Manager is designated responsibility by the Director responsible for health and safety to control and update all SHE documentation and to ensure that all functions operate to the procedures and instructions:-

In particular the SHE Manager will:

Understand the application of the Health and Safety at Work, etc. Act 1974 and other legislation relevant to the Companies business. Ensure the organization therefore remains compliant with all legislation regarding Health Safety and Environment. Capture and share industry SHE best practice.

Keep up to date with changes in current legislation and to bring to the attention of the Director responsible for Health and Safety any relevant new legislation. Ensure SHE procedures are updated and implemented consistently to ensure statutory compliance.
Conduct health and safety inspections and prepare reports of all aspects of the organizations operation.
To carry out investigations into all accidents and near-miss incidents and to record the findings on the relevant forms. Ensure all accidents, incidents and near misses are correctly reported, investigated and agreed actions implemented.

Essential criteria

Degree level (or working towards) in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent.

Chartered SHE professional or equivalent (demonstrable IPD/CPD equivalent)

Detailed understanding of SHE legislation.

Working knowledge of ISO 14001 and BS OHSAS 18001 Standards
Extensive experience in similar or supporting post-Leading SHE function in a large organization.

Other supporting business and/or engineering qualifications.
Positive mental attitude-"can do attitude".

Good oral and written communicator able to interpret data/reports etc.
Ability to lead and/or work as part of a team.

Ability to positively influence others.

Able to work in a pressurized situation.

Reliable, conscientious and honest.

Sound understanding of the maintenance requirements of large scale Social Landlord organisations

Experience of establishing good relationships with internal and external customers and staff - and motivating employees/building team spirit
Previous experience of managing change (particularly important as the business model embeds)

Effectively analyses numerical data, verbal data and all other sources of information

Makes rational judgements from the available information and analysis, producing a range of workable solutions

Demonstrates financial awareness - and controls costs.

Requirement to travel between on a weekly basis between key operational hubs in East Midlands and London. Train cards will be provided in advance

Demonstrates intermediate capability on MS Office suite - MS Word, MS Excel, MS Project and MS Powerpoint

Must have a UK Driver licence and access to a vehicle, travel will be required and fuel will be paid at 45ppm.

£50-£55k pa.
