Cloud Engineer, Systems Analyst, SCCM, SCOM, Office 365, AWS

Our client is offering the chance for a Cloud Engineer to assist in shifting their current enterprise infrastructure to commodity cloud based services. This project will require a ‘cloud first’ approach to end user technology and creative skills in solving complex technology challenges across multiple functions.

The ideal Cloud Engineer candidate will have significant engineering experience (as a Systems Engineer or Cloud / Infrastructure Engineer) and be a team player, used to working in a collaborative environment. This new Cloud Engineer position requires adept and creative skills for solving complex technology challenges across multiple functions and will involve Greenfield implementation of Microsoft Office 365, Active Directory and Hyper V.

The successful Cloud Engineer will be expected to assist Level 2 Systems Engineers in the resolution of major incidents or problems should they be escalated. As a Cloud Engineer / Systems Engineer, you will bridge the gap between engineering and support by sharing knowledge and providing guidance to other engineers, on the design, implementation and troubleshooting of the current platforms.

The Systems Analyst / Cloud Engineer will have the following commercial experience:

  • Good experience working as Systems Engineer (Level 2 and/or Level 3)
  • Excellent technical skills and experience gained from working within complex Enterprise infrastructure projects. You must be able to demonstrate how you’ve supported large scale migrations/transformations programmes.
  • Demonstrable experience in translating high level technical architectures and service design requirements into a clear and coherent low-level designs.
  • Significant experience of infrastructure and application architectures, particularly with respect to cloud services, automation techniques and managing ‘infrastructure as code’ leading to consistent delivery and to high levels of quality.
  • Experience in the automation of manual tasks and seeking out efficiencies by ‘shifting left’ where possible.
  • Knowledge of advanced problem management and troubleshooting techniques, performance and capacity reporting using various tools.
  • Good understanding of security best practices, particularly in relation to software patching, data leakage prevention and encryption.
  • Good understanding of the total cost ownership and lifecycle management of EUC assets.
  • Extensive and demonstrable experience of Incident and Problem Management, with an understanding of other ITIL processes, applied across multi-platform technologies.
  • The Systems Analyst / Cloud Engineer will have the following technical skills:

  • Experience Microsoft Active Directory Domain Services, ADFS, SSO and cloud based identity management.
  • Advanced knowledge of AWS IaaS – workload migrations, VPC design, connectivity solutions etc.
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows Server 2012/2016 and Hyper-V to support regional office locations, including on premise and cloud based file serving.
  • Advanced knowledge of Windows network protocols including DNS, DHCP, WINS, LDAP and Kerberos.
  • Experience tracking assets and deploying software using System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM).
  • Monitoring tools i.e.) System Center Operations Manager (SCOM).
  • Experience security technologies and strategies, including the use of web and email content filtering, public key infrastructure, drive encryption, patch management and AV best practices.
  • PowerShell to automate complex and repetitive operations for L1 and L2 support teams.
  • Knowledge of implementing and supporting Office 365, including Lync/Skype for Business, PSTN connectivity and Cloud PBX in a global organisation.
  • The Systems Analyst / Cloud Engineer will ideally have the following desirable skills:

  • Knowledge of scripting Infrastructure as Code - Terraform, CloudFormation etc
  • Configuration Management platforms – Puppet, PowerShell DSC etc.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure PaaS & SaaS services
  • MDM technologies and how these are used to support a BYOD strategy.
