Deputy Ward Manager - experienced in CAHMS/ Eating Disorders
Responsibility to: Ward Manager
Responsible for Staff Nurses and Healthcare Support Workers
To provide, Clinical, Managerial and Leadership guidance to Junior Staff. To actively participate in patient care. To be responsible for the efficient and effective planning, implementing and evaluating of patient care plans to maintain quality service.
1.1 Ensure that standards of care are maintained through productive management and be aware of the need to implement change
1.2 Identify Care needs of patients, planning and implementing nursing interventions and evaluating outcome of care given and implementing change where required.
1.3 Participating in clinical reviews, nursing reviews ensuring accurate feedback on patient care to the MDT.
1.4 Communicating information on patient care to Consultant and staff grade Psychiatrist/ Associate Specialist accurately in a timely fashion.
1.5 Administering and monitoring of medication management for the ward in accordance with policy and procedures manual.
1.6 Ensure nursing procedures are completed as required, TPR’s, Bps, weights, heights, blood investigations and other required interventions are accessed appropriately.
1.7 To participate in the admission and nursing assessments of patients to ensure the highest quality of service delivery.
1.8 To act as key worker to allocated patients and understand key worker responsibilities.
1.9 Teaching and supervising patients acquiring skills in daily living, e.g. personal hygiene, shopping, social skills, etc.
1.10 Supervising patients meals to ensure dietary intake and take appropriate action where required.
1.11 To have a good knowledge of 1983 Mental Health Act with particular reference to individual patients’ rights
1.12 To have knowledge of the 1989 Children Act the hospitals Child Protection/procedures, the working together 2010 documentation and other related legislation and guidance.
1.13 To be converse with CQC outcomes and implement accordingly
2.1 To deputise in the absence of the Ward Manager
2.2 To actively promote supervision of junior staff acting on any areas of concern.
2.3 To be conversant with NMC code of professional conduct and practice
2.4 Assist and undertake the induction development preceptorship and supervision of, new and junior staff members as required.
2.5 Adhere to hospital operational policies and clinical procedures at all times and assist and teach all junior staff to adhere to said policies.
2.7 Maintain strict confidentiality in matters relating to patients and staff
2.8 Report and record incidents and accidents in accordance with company policy and procedures manual and document same.
2.9 To assist with the investigation and resolution of complaints in accordance with hospital policy
2.10 Ensure fire safety procedures are followed and safe evacuation is completed were necessary
2.11 Promote and ensure effective communication with the Ward manager and MDT, to ensure the safety and quality of service delivery to all patients.
2.12 Promote and ensure adherence and effective implementation of all safeguarding policies throughout the hospital
3. Personal/Professional Development
3.1 To keep up to date with Current research and development in adolescent mental health issues.
3.2 To be personally responsible to ensure your individual training and skills are maintained in line with NMC code and personal development
3.3 To actively engage and promote personal supervision.
4.1 To undertake other duties as may be required form time to time by the hospital Management
4.2 To participate in the hospitals on call rota
4.3 To act as role model for junior staff
4.4 To work on all units within the hospital when required
