Head of Primary School - Brent Independant School

Principle responsibilities

Reporting to the Head of School and member of the senior leadership team, the Head of Primary School will provide and lead the strategic direction for the Primary School in line with the whole school vision and development plan. He/she will motivate and inspire students and staff to ensure the intellectual and individual development of each and every student. The successful candidate will establish a culture that promotes the school's philosophy and values of excellence, integrity, courage and awareness.

Key Responsibilities and duties

The Head of Primary School will:

  • Ensure all Primary Teaching Staff are committed to the school's mission and values;
  • Oversee systems for collecting and tracking data on students' progress towards academic goals;
  • Visit classrooms and evaluate the quality of teaching and learning across the Primary school on a daily basis;
  • Hold all staff to the highest standards of excellence in education;
  • Provide all Primary teaching staff with the support and guidance necessary to implement successful and modern teaching;
  • Organise professional development opportunities in accordance with the School's objectives;
  • Be responsible for the daily organisation of the Primary school life including the creation of student and teacher timetables;
  • Be first point of contact for teachers and parents/carers;
  • Ensure the safety and wellbeing of students including working in close collaboration with the School Nurse on health matters;
  • Keep the Head of School informed of any issues arising;
  • Collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team to develop and maintain a challenging and clear vision for the school and ensure that plans following the strategic direction are evaluated regularly;
  • Advise the Head of School on Primary School staffing, budgetary and facility's needs.

Education & Experience Required

The successful candidate will need to:

  • Possess management experience in a school, ideally in a bilingual environment;
  • Hold at least a QTS qualification or equivalent, Masters preferred;
  • Have a strong personal experience in teaching;
  • Be able to provide training/coaching sessions for Primary staff;
  • Exhibit excellent planning and organisational skills
  • Show excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Be fluent in both French and English;
  • Demonstrate astute judgement and the ability to provide regular feedback;
  • Exhibit imagination, creativity and a sense of humour;
  • Demonstrate the ability to organise, inspire and lead a team.
