As the Production Design Engineer, you’re the bridge between the client, the design team, the sales team and the production controller. That’s a wide span, but you have the mind to ride all those horses at one and the same time.


Based in East Sussex, our client is a highly successful engineering company with creativity at its core. The company has grown substantially in recent years and plans to continue that growth.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you are the lynch pin between the clients and the inner-workings of the organisation.

Key Responsibilities – To ensure that all information is checked and available to the production controller prior to the job sheet being completed.

1. Checking all drawings and approve, amend if required.
2. Checking all details on the sales order are correct.
3. Liaise directly with design team, sales reps and clients regarding any design concerns.
4. Conduct daily production meeting and ensure all information is clear to enable the production controller to complete the job sheets, to include departmental times.
5. To liaise with clients and design team regarding any technical issues that arise during production.
6. Ensure that any subcontract/outsourced work has been instructed/purchase orders raised.
7. Ensure all materials are ordered.
8. Assist with any technical details that may arise from sales staff during the estimating process.
9. Improve efficiency of the manufacture of standard products. To include ensuring that all technical information/sizing is correct on the drawings, website, catalogue, Quickbooks etc,
10. Be involved in the design of new product development.

Not everybody else has your innate attention to detail, nor your capacity for teamwork.


The ideal candidate will already have experience of just this role in an engineering/manufacturing environment. It would be a clear advantage if you had experience working with architects, specifiers and interior designers.

You’ll need the following skills and attributes:

• Understand and interpret engineering drawings
• Great attention to detail, and maintaining records and administration
• Able to deal with multiple audiences at one and the same time – especially those that are customer facing
• Experience working in a creative environment
• Have a healthy respect for deadlines
• Experience in a multi-faceted Project Management environment

The company offices and factory are in the southern part of East Sussex. It’s formally a 40-hour week.

Basic salary will be up to £35,000 depending on skills and experience.
