The VAT team forms part of the Business Tax department. It provides bespoke VAT services to its clients and deals with all queries from basic compliance through to high-level advisory work. It prepares VAT returns and computations, carries out VAT planning/consultancy work and deals with HMRC, clients and third parties.

Your duties will include:

• Manage the VAT compliance team to ensure timely submission of compliance documents on a continuing basis.
• Review and submit VAT returns, European Sales Lists, Intrastat forms and MOSS returns to HMRC for approximately 90 existing clients
• Manage VAT registrations, deregistration’s, options to tax and error corrections
• Ensure that client take on procedures and letters of engagement are prepared correctly, accurately and that these are recorded and kept up to date
• Prepare appeals against default surcharges where appropriate
• Respond to queries raised by clients and staff on all matters of VAT
• Review the consultancy work of more junior team members
• Approve fee quotes, manage staff utilisation and timely billing
• Debtor management where appropriate
• Undertake VAT health checks and due diligence exercises on a wide variety of clients.
• Assist staff in determining the VAT liability of billings
• Run VAT training courses for VAT , tax, and audit staff
• Provide input into the annual appraisal procedure for a number of staff
• Provide any other assistance to the VAT partner that may be required

We are looking for the following attributes as outlined below:

• Good technical knowledge of UK VAT legislation and practice, including international services, imports and exports etc
• Excellent technical and analytical skills
• Good communication and presentational skills
• Competent using MS Office
• Strong organisational and time management skills
• Proven planning and prioritising skills
• Able to influence internal clients / colleagues
• Able to work under pressure with accuracy and focus
• A questioning mind, and an ability to look behind the figures presented, into the client’s business to ensure that all relevant points have been anticipated and covered.
• Good people and relationship management (clients, partners and staff)
• Pragmatic and a good problem solving skills
• Able to meet deadlines and respond/adapt to unplanned changes quickly (flexible)
