Senior Payroll & Finance Assistant wanted for a well-established construction company based in Bishop's Stortford. This is an excellent opportunity that offers five weeks holiday as well as flexible start times.

Working directly under the Finance Manager, the focus of this role will be on all aspects of the monthly payroll function whilst supporting the weekly payroll, production of management accounts, and other areas of finance. The split will be roughly 20% payroll and 80% accounts, broken down as follows:

  • Management of the payroll functions across the business including all year end reporting
  • Assist the Financial Controller with the preparation of Group Financial reports
  • Submission of all HMRC data and statistical returns
  • Assist with cost control measures
  • Management of the daily cash position
  • Ensure current finance processes are followed whilst continually looking to make any improvements
  • Producing the monthly payroll including costing and recharging projects
  • Payroll year end statutory requirements including submission of P11ds
  • Supervision of the weekly payroll
  • Management of the pension scheme and other employee benefit schemes
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly Management Accounts including month end journals
  • Monthly reconciliation of the Group inter-company accounts
  • Maintenance of the Fixed Asset Register including monthly depreciation adjustments
  • Assist with inventory management
  • Reconcile all Balance Sheet accounts monthly
  • Calculation, processing and monitoring of internal recharges
  • Assist with the preparation of year end statutory accounts and support the audit process
  • Oversee the Subcontractor function and production of the monthly CIS returns
  • Preparation of Quarterly VAT Returns
  • Assist with the management of the cash book, daily bank balances and credit cards
  • Complete all government statistical returns
  • Assist with the checking of expenses and business partner invoices input by the finance team
  • Support the Financial Controller with the implementation of any new accounting software
  • Administrator for accounting and banking systems
  • Assist with the preparation of the weekly report and cash flow
  • Co-ordinate import and export documentation
  • Dealing with foreign currency transactions, hedging and exchange rate variances

The successful candidate will have the following:

  • SAGE Payroll experience (ideal)
  • SAP Business One
  • At least 10 years past experience of working in a similar role OR fully AAT Qualified
  • Good practical understanding of Excel
  • Understanding of cost control and following processes
  • Organised, focused individual with a good attention to detail
  • A positive attitude with the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines and work as part of a team
  • Construction experience (for CIS)

In return, my client will be paying a competitive salary of £34,000 - £37,000 based on a 37.5 hour week with a flexible start time. Benefits include life assurance, pension contributions, bonuses, & 25 days holiday.
