Sheridan Maine is recruiting for a leading organisation based in Dorset, whereby an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Group VAT Manager to join their Head Office Finance Team.

As the Group VAT Manager, you will be the advisor in relation to VAT and indirect taxes ensuring all liabilities are properly managed, and minimised, whilst complying with legislation.

Within this role, you will be:

• Responsible for accuracy and timely submission of the Group's monthly VAT return by the relevant deadlines; Reviewing the consolidated Group return and constituent regional, estates management and head office returns and making the necessary Group adjustments

• Responsible for maintaining and applying the Group's partial exemption special method. This will involve monitoring business activities to ensure any changes which may be necessary are addressed, and applying the current method both on a monthly and annual basis

• Review FRI transactions to ensure compliant with the agreed disposal structure agreed with HMRC and make the necessary recharge adjustments on the VAT return

• To advise on and monitor the Group's accounting system's inbuilt VAT controls, including the VAT matrix.

• Carry out reviews of VAT and Indirect Tax procedures and initiate action to minimise VAT and Indirect Tax liabilities consistent with prevailing legal requirements and to support the Group's Senior Accounting Officer position

• Monitor changes in VAT and Indirect Tax regulations, communicate their likely impact on the business and make the necessary changes to procedures / processes

• Responsible for managing the relationship with the Group's external tax advisors and legal advisors on VAT and Indirect Tax matters to ensure planning opportunities are identified and actioned as appropriate

• Act as a source of proactive tax planning advice for the Group

Assist in the management and delivery of VAT training to regional and head office employees

• To provide VAT and Indirect Tax advice and input into ad hoc projects and new business ventures and consult with external tax and legal advisors as appropriate to ensure the business is provided with practical and technically accurate advice on a timely basis

• Maintain all VAT and Indirect Tax content on the group's intranet site and pro-actively publish articles with any topical VAT and Indirect Tax changes/updates applicable to the business

Key skills and experience required:

• You will hold a professional ACCA, CTA or AIIT qualification

• You will be an experienced VAT practitioner

• You will be a motivated self-starter with the ability to multitask and complete assignments within time constraints and deadlines

• You will possess strong organisational skills and attention to detail

• You will have highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with the wider business, specifically in negotiating with and influencing others
