This leading global industrial engineering and manufacturing business is looking to appoint an experienced Design Engineer to create design solutions for the integration of mechanical electrical systems onto vehicle packages which then meet vehicle duty and environmental requirements.

Commutable from: Birmingham, Warwick, Leamington Spa, Alcester, Stratford On Avon, Kidderminster, Coventry

Salary: £ 33,000 - £ 38,000 p.a + Flexible Hours + Pension + Benefits

The Role

Working as a key part of the design and development team within the automotive engineering team, you will be involved in the following key tasks;

Assist in the design and development of 'installation ready' delivery package solutions to the Commercial and off-highway vehicle markets
Develop mounting and package solutions for integrating products onto commercial vehicles
Create design solutions for alternative product drives (hydraulic; direct shaft; Emotor etc)
Develop designs for compact silencer and cooling packages to meet Acoustic and Thermal targets
Liaise with (Component and Service) Suppliers to develop appropriate design solutions to Quality; Cost and Performance
Develop and maintain Design and Project Engineering control documents (Timing plans; specification documentation; sign off)
Create 3D design and 2D drawings to company, client and industry standards
Apply calculation and analysis to demonstrate capability of design
Apply tools such as DFMEA; Root Cause Analysis; DFMA to minimise risk in design
Create Bills of Materials and Illustrated Parts Manuals
Prepare and maintain Project maturity and reporting documentation

The Person

With a minimum of a HND in Mechanical Engineering of similar and a background in mechanical design and development you will have a strong mix of the following skills and experience;

A minimum of three years' experience in vehicle component / system / whole vehicle package design / project engineering environment
Low to medium volume deign for production experience
Appreciation of the (Commercial) vehicle package and operational requirements
Understanding of the processes and therefore design requirements for delivering Thermal, Acoustic and Durability performance
Understanding of the design requirements for fabrication and assembly
Understanding of typical material properties and their application to product design and function
Conversant with Microsoft tools - Word; Excel; PPT; MSP
Good mechanical designer with demonstrated competencies for GD&T; DFMA with an appreciation of manufacturing process requirements in design (3D/2D CAD - Autodesk Inventor, CATIA, Pro-Engineer and Solidworks)
Experience of the off-highway, truck and bus / coach or commercial vehicle sector would be highly advantageous
