Design Engineer/ Technical Designer

South East

£ Negotiable + Bens, Permanent, Full Time

You will turn a creative brief or concept sketch into an engineered solution through technical development and your output will be a set of highly accurate technical drawings and specifications.Your work will be centred around the design for manufacture of retail display equipment (Shelving systems, furniture, POS and POP units, freestanding displays or any other physical merchandising equipment found in shops)

Materials and disciplines at your disposal will usually take the form of metalwork (EPC Mild Steel), Timber, plastics, glass or any other material appropriate for the project.You will need to field technical questions, understand grocery and non-food modular retail shelving systems and general design principles in the industry.Your knowledge of manufacturing techniques and standard details should be employed as close as possible to the start of the project.


·Produce technical piece-part, assembly and GA drawings of new retail display equipment in Solidworks (Or similar) 3D CAD

·Engage other departments (manufacturing/ purchasing /logistics /installation) and lead the design project into prototype delivery

·Possibility of discussing the technical aspects of the design with end clients

·Function checking of prototypes, supplier samples and first offs

·Supervision and project management of load testing

·Assessing the structural integrity of suggested designs through FEA, other manual calculation, or validation methods.

·Completing (and supervising the completion of) designer’s risk assessments, assembly guides, O&M manuals or any other documentation required for compliance with CDM regulations

·Value engineering of existing designs


·Experienced user of Solidworks, Inventor or similar

·Able to produce clear technical drawings, dimensioned and noted appropriately

·Understanding of at least one or more of the following physical manufacturing processes:

Mild Steel Fabrication

Timber production

·Must be able to demonstrate experience of taking design projects from brief to delivery with minimal supervision and able to challenge and question those briefing the project.

·Must be a practical person with experience in a manufacturing environment

·A recognised design qualification preferably at Degree level or similar
