Lead Network Engineer- NOC, SOC, LAN/WAN, Routing, Switching, TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, Juniper, Checkpoint, Python, SolarWinds- Permanent- Liverpool

A well established and rapidly growing digital and e-commerce business are looking for a Lead Network Engineer to join the business to support a core technical operations team. Ideal role for an already experienced Lead Network Engineer who is looking to take on broader challenges in the network engineering space in a fast paced environment, and expand out into the security space.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

  • Educated to Bachelor's degree level in a relevant discipline such as Computer Science, Information Technology or Network Communications, or possessing similar, equivalent professional qualifications
  • At least 4 years experience in a Lead Network Engineer role or similar capacity
  • Expert level understanding of core networks such as LAN, WAN and WLAN
  • Solid understanding of core routing and communications protocols such as TCP/IP, BGP and OSPF
  • Strong understanding of network operating systems and firewalls including Checkpoint and Juniper
  • Abilities in one coding language, preferably Python or Perl
  • Experience with network monitoring tools including SolarWinds
  • Background understanding of SOC operations and cyber security, including penetration testing methodology and intrusion detection
  • Skills of understanding and deploying access control models
  • Certification in CCNA or CCNP advantageous


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work in partnership with the IT Operations Manager to support all core network requirements
  • Act as a bridge point with the SOC engineering team, risk and compliance, and information security teams to ensure that all core infrastructure practices align to the service level agreements and best practices of these areas
  • Carry out monitoring and maintenance of all core network infrastructure and firewall architecture
  • Make recommendations for where improvements could be made in the technical estate
  • Create new security strategy, recommending where new processes and policies could be implemented to improve the performance of network and security systems
  • Carry out change and release management activity, including automation scripting to support optimum performance of mission critical, high availability solutions
