Our team and what we do

Our Systems Engineering team is part of the wider Project Delivery team within the Siemens Intelligent Traffic Systems business. We are responsible for the design and deployment of innovative traffic management and control solutions both in the United Kingdom and Worldwide, working independently and as part of larger delivery teams.

Core to Siemens values are innovation and the delivery of technology which improves our daily lives. Our systems engineering team provide the human face to the implementation of the sometimes invisible technology which supports the easy movement of people around the towns and cities we live in.

Our products and services touch many aspects of everyday mobility including low emission zones, average speed and bus lane enforcement, congestion charging, city wide traffic management systems and electric vehicle charging. If you drove or took public transport today, you almost certainly interacted with what we do every day to keep our roads safe and running freely.

The role involves delivery of Siemens products and solutions, deploying these to customers with some degree of customization. An example would be our traffic control system uses standard internet style communications but a typical installation may require a mix of wireless, wired and fibre optic communications. As a senior systems engineer your knowledge and expertise will create the solution for the customer from standard building blocks.

Is Siemens the place to enjoy your next success?

  • You have a positive outlook and are self-motivated to work towards shared success as a key member of the team.
  • You can make informed decisions on customer solutions, interpreting technical requirements and take responsibility for the solution.
  • Collaboration is central to your approach in solving project issues with your colleagues across the business.
  • You are an effective communicator able to describe technical solutions to all stakeholders to achieve the desired result
  • Can you identify, analyse and solve technical problems for customers and use the lessons learned to improve future deliveries?
  • You see technical setbacks as a challenge to overcome and use them to improve your own knowledge and experience.

In your role, what can you expect?

Central to everything we do is the safety of our employees and we work hard to deliver a zero harm workplace. As systems engineers we ensure the working safety of all our projects and comply with appropriate regulations. Siemens will provide training in any areas needed to do this effectively.

Within the systems engineering team you will be responsible for the delivery of small customer projects of typical value 5-100k that include aspects requiring bespoke engineering solutions.

You will also work closely with project management and our development colleagues on major projects. Central to our success is the support of tendering for new work, generating technical proposals and costs as well as building relationships with other internal customers such as the support and field services teams.

Our systems engineers work on a mixture of projects in parallel ? usually between 5 to 8 at any one time. Alongside the delivery of the technical solution you will manage your time and maintain a forecast of outstanding work and costs, collaborating with your project manager or the engineering management team..

Innovation in delivery is our goal and you will be encouraged to challenge the status quo, working with the wider project delivery team to improve project delivery and value to our customers.

Our projects deliver solutions with both physical and cloud based technology and the role involves some travel to customer locations both in the UK and overseas.

You will hold a degree or equivalent ? ideally in a STEM subject and it is desirable that candidates have additional accreditations such as CCNA or equivalent in cloud based solutions such as Amazon Web Services.
