The Valuation Office Agency (VOA), a key agency within HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC), along with Revenue & Customs Digital Technology Services (RCDTS) are embarking on an ambitious and challenging digital transformation programme which will result in HMRC, including the VOA, becoming one of the most digitally advanced tax authorities in the world.


Revenue & Customs Digital Technology Services (RCDTS) was set up in 2015 as a subsidiary of HMRC’s Chief Digital & Information Officer Group and has one of the largest customer bases in the world.

This role sits in the Valuation Office Agency (VOA) Delivery Group (DG) which comprises a team of technology experts working on essential IT projects developing innovative solutions in support of the VOA’s digital front-end to improve resilience and performance for its user services. Its focus is on collaboration with other internal technology teams, VOA departments and external suppliers to deliver value for money.

The Role

You will work in the VOA Delivery Group where you’ll work in a mixed-experience team who are based in our Worthing office. As an Oracle Developer you’ll work in our busy team and be involved in the full development lifecycle. You will be self-motivated and expected to code, test, build and deploy solutions within a multi-disciplined team. You will also work in an agile environment working on a variety of projects.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated self-starter who can communicate effectively and play an active part in designing innovative solutions for the business. You will have experience in Oracle Forms and Reports 10G or later with good SQL and PSQL skills. You will have experience of agile methodologies and contribute to design activities on the team, attending workshops and contributing to the production of design specifications.

Requirements (Essential and Desirable)

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate practical experience in the following key areas:

Oracle Forms and Reports 10G, or later versions (working with bespoke Forms and Reports) Oracle 10G Databases, or later versionsGood SQL and PLSQL skillsUse of Unix environmentsTesting of own work and that of others, accurately recording tests undertaken and reporting defects.Investigating, identifying, and resolving software and data problems, and providing support to operational teams The full software development lifecycleAgile / Scrum Projects, with the proven ability to work in a team environment under pressure to deliver quality products to tight deadlines.Desirable criteria

Unix shell scriptingExperience of Serena Dimensions CM softwareExperience of Agile tooling such as Jira and ConfluenceSelection Process
