Gowerlabs is a medical technology startup focussed on developing innovative neuroimaging devices for neuroscience and medical applications. We are seeking a software engineer to join our rapidly growing team. Their role will be to develop the user interface for a cutting-edge, wearable neuroimaging technology.

The successful candidate will work with a multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers and designers on the delivery of the neuroimaging technology. The successful candidate will work independently to develop the user interface for our product; this will include extensive 3D visualisation, alongside more conventional 2D GUI design elements.

Irrespective of their particular experience, we intend to find an applicant who has the commitment and enthusiasm to help us grow our company, and the ability to take on greater responsibilities as we broaden our product portfolio.

The successful applicant will have the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, outstanding communication skills, and significant expertise in the following:

  • software engineering, including source control, project planning, and testing frameworks;
  • development of graphical user interfaces, or interactive visualisation;
  • the use of a 2D and 3D rendering API such as OpenGL;

The following skills and experience are desirable:

  • relevant frameworks such as Qt;
  • knowledge of multiple languages such as C, C++, C#, Python, Julia, MATLAB;
  • 3D modelling and design;
  • GPU acceleration (CUDA) or alternative HPC;
  • web technologies (HTML5, JS, web app frameworks);
  • mathematical ability (e.g. linear algebra);
  • commercial development for end users;
  • product regulatory frameworks and quality control;
  • an ability to work independently

To be considered for the senior role, an applicant must have at least 5 years’ experience of developing commercial software, experience of leading a team, project management, and must meet a significant number of the desirable criteria above.
