Job Overview: Our client, a manufacturer of injection moulding components is keen to appoint a Head of Moulding & Engineering with strong technical experience of injection moulding processes and people management. EXPIRES 17/06/18

The role of Head of Engineering will be to manage the Moulding & Engineering department ensuring that the technical support required to meet company and customer needs is effectively provided.

For the role of Head of Engineering, you should be in a similar role, Moulding Engineer/Technical Manager/Moulding Manager and should be supported with relevant Injection Moulding qualifications (BPTA, IMT, G&A, RJG).

This is an excellent post for a technical moulding professional who is looking to add value to the company with the increasing demands from its clients.

  • Accountabilities & Responsibilities:

    General Management Working collaboratively with Management team and direct reports;

  • Ensure direct reports are supported
  • Support Sales & Marketing function throughout the sales process
  • Support and mentor the Quality Product Manufacturing team
  • Working with staff and shareholders:

  • Ensure all staff display a level of personal presentation which reflects the Company’s image
  • Actively participate in meetings as and when required
  • Establish & maintain active interdepartmental co-ordination, communication and cooperation
  • When required, provide cover for other team members + ensure cover is arranged when absent
  • Provide technical support to production and quality departments as may be required by them from time to time
  • Attend regular meetings with the production and QA departments to identify problems in current and forthcoming production, resolving any technical problems arising
  • Maintain awareness of developments within areas of operation and support and reinforce policies
  • Human Resources and Talent Development:

  • Build an academy culture with close links to schools and colleges
  • Build an apprenticeship programme that provides formal qualifications
  • Rotate staff throughout the team, proving career development
  • Planning & Scheduling:

  • Input known requirements into budgeting processes
  • Carry out activity within agreed budgeted levels, seeking prior approval of any necessary overspend
  • Regularly review BUD and new orders and plan new business and trials
  • Plan service and calibration of all moulding machines and ancillary equipment in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations
  • Keep accurate, up to date service, maintenance and calibration records for all equipment
  • Regularly carry out vendor rating assessments of toolmakers
  • Plan, develop and implement the Health and Safety system to ensure compliance with the Company Health and Safety Policy
  • Act as company Health & Safety representative, making sure that Health & Safety requirements are met
  • Requirements for new plant comes from Quotation stage… scheduled reviews
  • Business Development:

    Working closely with the Head of Sales & Marketing and the Quality Product Director, support lead generation and business development activities;

  • Identification of sectors and business during sales planning
  • Provide technical input with quotations for new and existing business
  • Attend client meetings as and when needed
  • Research & Development:

    Working with stakeholders and the Manufacturing Engineer, ensure the business has the technical advice it needs to manage development of new business and products

  • Project manage new technical developments and manufacture of tooling, ensuring the parts are delivered on time and meet the specifications agreed with the customer
  • Keep up with relevant technical developments which may affect the company and bring these to the attention of the Managing Director and the management team
  • Provide technical advice and support to customers
  • Carry out the associated metrology, and statistical techniques as required
  • Development and refinement of new tooling and production of new parts
  • Carry out and supervise tooling and manufacturing trials
  • Assist QA in establishing requirements for gauging, measuring and test equipment
  • Assist Production in establishing requirements for methods, jigs, and fixtures
  • To provide technical input in the preparation of quotations including liaison with customer and toolmaker
  • To undertake internal investigations into technical projects as given and to report back in a timely precise manner with recommendations taking due regard of cost effectiveness
  • Maintenance & Engineering:

    Management oversight of the maintenance engineer, ensuring company cars, plant and machinery are services, maintained and replaced when necessary

  • Approve requests for new plant and machinery
  • Approve requests for repairs and stocks of parts
  • Approve disposal requests
  • Manufacturing:

    Accountable for the technical manufacturing processes, working closely with the Quality Product Director to produce products to agreed standards, specifications and schedules

  • Day-to-day management of the Moulding Process Team Leader and Manufacturing Engineer
  • Attend daily meeting with team to review, plan and monitor achievement of production plan
  • Support the team in the identification and resolution of problems in current and forthcoming production
  • Ensure that key measures of delivery performance, reject levels, stock turnover, labour performance, absence and record accuracy are achieved
  • Reporting & Optimisation:

    ·

  • To undertake internal investigations into technical projects as given and to report back in a timely precise manner with recommendations taking due regard of cost effectiveness
  • Report adverse trends in equipment condition/Status of plant
  • Establish robust methods of continuous improvement
  • Actively pursue improvements to improve the cost effectiveness of the business
  • Maintain and develop reports such as Trouble Shooting Reports, Mould Tool Defect logs and Machine & Equipment Reports

  • Experience of leading a technical department within a manufacturing business
  • Mould flow and tooling design experience and qualifications
  • Experience of managing a moulding/manufacturing team
  • Experience of managing Research & Development activities from conceptual design to trials and production

  • Educated to degree level
