You will be responsible for coordinating with external partners and internal teams to develop and apply the architecture principles and strategy necessary to ensure that all solutions are agile, flexible and coherently fit within the organization’s wider mission.
This role will join up with a new senior team that will include an IT Security Manager and Infrastructure Manager
Purpose of the post:•Support the Head of ICT in the planning and development of an appropriate five-year ICT plan, its integration into the wider ILTS plans and other school, departmental, and institutional frameworks •Take a leading role in the analysis of project requirements, mapping requirements and developing infrastructure and application architecture to support project delivery•Take a leading role on the development of innovative methods for exploiting existing and new platform capabilities to maximize organisational performance•Take the lead on the development and definition of architecture and IT standards, ensuring alignment with these as part of project delivery•Provide support and assurance to ensure compliance with due diligence processes, legal and regulatory requirements and College needs•Report and escalate delivery issues and risks as appropriate and work across all ILTS teams to mitigate or minimize impacts•Maintain good relationship with project teams, internal and external customers and suppliers in order to ensure highly effective solutions are developed and implemented•Liaise with stakeholders to understand their remit and requirements; gather information for functional and non-functional requirements as appropriate and also to explain the technology capabilities, constraints and operational aspects•Contribute and where applicable lead the activity to construct and document the comprehensive view of as-is solutions architecture including contextual, logical and physical views, high-level information flows and external and internal system interfaces•Take the lead in generating high level design documents that can easily be understood by technical staff and customers;•Take the lead in generating low level design documents that provide full technical details necessary for technical teams or external third parties to implement the solution;•Work with Project Managers and Business Analysts to ensure that the ICT projects have clearly-defined technical deliverables that will meet functional and non-functional requirements; the potential solution is fit-for-purpose and is consistent with the University’s solutions architecture and help provide to realistic estimates of required effort•Assess and report on the suitability of proposed 3rd party applications from a technical, architectural and integration perspective. Ensure any such systems meet the University’s technical standards, have suitable interface/integration capabilities and do not unnecessarily duplicate already-available functionality;•Design and continue to develop the processes and governance that will be required for architecture to succeed and deliver maximum value. Ensure the overall architecture framework remains pragmatic, achievable and “fit for purpose”
Desirable Experience•At least one relevant professional qualification from ITIL (IT Infrastructure Library) or Prince2 Project Management •Knowledge of and experience in the use of a recognized architecture framework such as TOGAF•Knowledge of modelling languages useful in architecture modelling and documentation such as Archimate, UML and BPMN•Highly proficient in MS Visio•Understanding of programming language constructs
