We currently have a permanent vacancy for a Systems Engineer with experience of managing Network Design and implementation at our Whiteley Office. Applicants must have, or be eligible to acquire, SC clearance.

The successful candidate will be required to support the execution of Systems Engineering activities on a large-scale system of systems integration project with particular focus on bringing the underpinning infrastructure into service. This is an opportunity to work on an exciting programme delivering critical infrastructure key to the future of UK Air Traffic Management.

THE ROLE YOU WILL PLAY

The successful candidate will have a full understanding of the principles of system engineering, be able to demonstrate past successes in leading diverse engineering teams and will have prior experience as a Systems Engineer for a major programme involving accepting and integrating deliveries from suppliers. Using their experience in Systems Engineering, the successful candidate will be responsible for working with customers and suppliers to execute Systems Engineering activities across the full lifecycle

Though extensive experience with Air Traffic Management (ATM) is not required as on-the-job training will be provided, the successful candidate will need to have broad systems engineering experience, preferably within delivery of complex network infrastructures supporting cloud & virtualized based applications.

Duties will include:

  • Providing networks engineering support for the design and development of the supplier provided solution providing technical oversight and guidance as appropriate
  • Reviewing supplier provided documentation during the design, development and acceptance phases
  • Supporting the generation of onboarding patterns for consumers of the infrastructure
  • Providing required systems engineering support to project/ delivery acceptance processes such as support to phase/ baseline reviews and transition of services to the wider programme
  • Leading/ supporting the resolution of safety related issues with the system design
  • Defining, overseeing, analysing and accepting both functional and non-functional network testing activities
  • Analysing requirements, determine optimum solutions and formulate accurate specifications
  • Providing support to assist the development, implementation and acceptance of the project, including support as required to phase and baseline reviews, support to systems design and critical design reviews
  • Ensuring that all engineering related issues are resolved in a timely manner and that all engineering risks (System Engineering, Software, Safety, Human Factors, and Test) are identified and managed through the appropriate risk management process and resolved prior to Engineering Handover

PROFILE

Required Skills:

  • Demonstrable successes within the System Engineering or System Architecture environment
  • Demonstrable strong understanding and application of network concepts, including but not limited to:


  • Cisco Virtual Routing and Forwarding (VRF) & VPNNetwork architecture, use and placement of CE and PE equipmentMPLS networksDynamic Routing ProtocolsOTVFirewalls (Cisco ASA & Palo Alto), single and multi contextOSI model, all layers and has knowledge of concepts appropriate to each layerFibre Optic (single mode, multi mode, DWDM) & Copper (Cat6)Function and use of equipment in the Cisco Catalyst, Nexus and ASR range


Ability to work with a number of suppliers, working across supplier boundaries and activing as the technical interface between teams as appropriateExperience of defining and overseeing both functional and non-functional network testingStrong experience at leading & energising diverse teamsDemonstrable commitment to sharing ideas, technologies and best practicesAbility to use understanding of customer needs and expectations to generate mutually beneficial solutions or alternativesWillingness to offer fresh, innovative ideas and/or unconventional approachesCommitment to monitoring progress against expectations, addressing performanceAbility to deliver clear messages through dialogue, written work and formal presentationDesired Skills:

  • Success in working within large-scale and complex integration programmes
  • Experience Success with designing / delivering systems in a Virtualised Environment
  • Experience of working with Service Oriented Architecture
  • Previous management experience is desired but not required
  • Experience of configuration management systems
  • Knowledge of Air Traffic Management or other safety related systems
