An Optical Engineer is required for a small high technology optical product manufacturer based near Southampton. This is key role within the organisation where you will take responsibility for commercialising production and test processes at a key stage of the company's development.
Key areas of responsibility will include:
Design and specification of optical and mechanical components for integration of nonlinear optical crystals with optical fibre based systems.
Design and implementation of lab based optical test equipment and procedures for laser characterisation of bulk and waveguide format optical crystals.
Generation of design and procurement specifications for fibre coupled optical components, mechanical assemblies and antireflection coatings.
Liaising with customers and suppliers for product design, specification and compliance.
Writing documentation to enable transfer of new products / processes from development to manufacturing.
Candidates will likely be qualified BSc or MSc level with some post degree experience gained within a commercial product development environment. Your experience will have been gained within either the design and testing of optical components or in a related area of optics, such as laser assembly or integrated optical fibre systems. This role required a practical, hands-on approach to product development and the need to understand and apply engineering principles to optical component design, test and application.
You should be able to demonstrate:
Hands-on experience of laser based testing and characterisation of optical components.
Hands-on experience in the handling and use of optical fibres and components.
Knowledge of optical design, prototyping , and validation requirements at a component or system level.
A broad range of laboratory based skills.
