Senior Research Engineer - Laser Powder Bed Fusion


Salary: £Competitive Market Rate

The Manufacturing Technology Centre have a requirement for a Senior Research Engineer to provide technical expertise in the area of laser powder bed fusion. Through the conducting of research projects increase the technology readiness levels (TRL’s) of laser powder bed fusion and supporting processes.

Duties & Responsibilities:

1.Technical leadership of innovative research projects across a range of technology readiness levels (TRL’s).

2.Apply specialist knowledge to deliver technology area projects to time/cost/quality, focussed towards increasing technology readiness for industry.

3.Provide advice for suitable Laser Powder Bed Fusion applications enabling selection whilst supporting the business case justification.

4.Considering the full value chain, take suitable candidate applications through full demonstration from concept to final delivery.

5.Conduct/support design for manufacture reviews and the generation of build data, support geometry

6.Operation of laser powder bed fusion in-house equipment

7.Conduct material test campaigns and process parameter optimisation

8.Identify and pursue new opportunities for pushing the boundaries of the current state of art AM platforms.

9.Dissemination of research findings including the creation and reviewing of technical reports

10.Development of research proposals for single client and collaborative R&D projects

11.Mentor and support engineers within the technology area

12.Carry out specific duties as may be reasonably requested by your line manager and that are commensurate with the nature and grade of the post.

·Recent experience of successfully managing complex multi partner projects in the high value manufacturing sector (1,3)

·Recent experience of effective management of personnel (3).

·Experience of having produced and reviewed technical reports and / or guidance materials on engineering or science topics (1).

·Experience of writing and winning research proposals.
