Do you want to be part of an innovative, creative team and use your excellent digital skills to raise money to promote the rights of women and girls, fight poverty and secure long-term change?

Digital channels increasingly provide the best ways to reach and engage with our audiences in the UK, to communicate with our supporters and involve them in our work. That’s why we have made digital transformation a priority, and why it’s more important than ever for the best digital talent to join our team.

In this role your primary responsibility will be to design and build great-looking, cutting edge web sites and web pages to support ActionAid’s work. You’ll work on all of our supporter-facing digital products, supporting the Web Development Manager as required.

You’ll have expertise in both front- and back-end web development – excellent PHP and Javascript skills are essential. Experience with ActionAid’s primary technology platforms – Drupal, Laravel and Magento – is preferred, but if you can show you have expertise with equivalent systems that’s great too.

ActionAid is committed to making its website the best in its class in the UK, and that includes the technologies they’re built on. Experience with React or a similar front-end Javascript frameworks is desirable; we’d like your front-end skills to extend beyond just jQuery, and knowledge of ES2015 and up is preferred. We’d also like someone who is keen to develop new technical skills as required by the demands of new systems or platforms – and drive ActionAid’s work forwards using these skills.

While your technical skills should be excellent, you’ll also need to have a keen eye for design and UX and be able to take projects from a blank screen through wire frames, Photoshop or Sketch files to live web pages. The pages you build will work equally well on mobile phones, tablets and desktop computers, and you will approach all projects from a mobile-first perspective.

You’ll also focus on optimising your work to maximise online conversion rates – so experience with implementing A/B tests and the learnings from them using data and evidence is important.

You’ll have the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects and web pages with supporter-facing teams across ActionAid – so it’s vital that you are comfortable project managing small to midsize technical projects involving multiple stakeholders – and can show how you’ve been able to do this in the past.

You’ll keep up to date with latest best practice in web development, usability and accessibility, and share best practice within the team and across departments. It should go without saying that a passion for all things digital is also a must-have.
