Connect Wellbeing are recruiting for a Substantive Consultant Psychiatrist to cover a small network of services in and around County Durham for Adult’s with Intellectual Disabilities.


•Comprehensive medical & psychiatric evaluations in collaboration with the MDT that include history taking, mental / physical evaluations and biopsychosocial formulations.

•Diagnostic and treatment reviews and mental / physical treatment administration

•Preparation of reports for and attendance at Mental Health Tribunal hearings as appropriate (a good knowledge of the Mental Health Act is required)

•Physical care in liaison with our attending General Practitioner

•Review of patients in preparation for CPA reviews and chairing of CPA reviews


•Clinical leadership to the MDT; key working relationships will include the Service Manager & Nursing director

•Work with colleagues to provide effective medical input for the shaping and developing of Learning Disability services within the region

•Contribution to clinical governance and responsibility for setting and maintaining standards


•You will join a continuous professional development (CPD) peer group

•The Medical Director chairs a quarterly Group Psychiatry Meeting; a forum which all of the company’s psychiatrists attend

•The company will help you identify & review learning objectives linked to Clinical, Academic & Professional practice in support of your CPD

Job Planning, appraisal & revalidation;

•You will agree a formal job plan with the Medical Director to be reviewed annually as part of your ongoing supervision.

•In order to meet the requirements for Revalidation, you will maintain an appraisal portfolio; the date of annual appraisal will be determined by the Appraisal Lead in their meeting with a newly appointed consultant within two months of starting
