Position: Senior Transport Planner (STP)

Reporting to: The Directors and Associate Directors

Line Manager: Director

DUTIES: Reporting to Directors and Associate Directors you will be an important member and participant within project teams of transport planners, engineers and technicians engaged on transport studies, scheme evaluation and preparation of reports (TA’s, TS’s, Travel Plans, Design and Access Statements etc.) to support and promote new development and infrastructure projects. Your responsibilities will include but may not necessarily be restricted to the following:

·Assisting with the research and associated technical inputs to transportation projects (private/public sector) for a range of land use and infrastructure schemes

·Carry out and supervise transport studies and transport assessments

·Organising, procuring and checking traffic surveys; supervising transport modelling (Linsig, Arcady, Oscady, Picady and other programs as are applicable to specific projects) with support and assistance from other staff experienced in modelling

·Conducting site visits as necessary in the course of undertaking research for specific projects

·Undertaking conceptual and preliminary designs in relation to preparation of highway and junction schemes and checking compliance with DMRB, MfS and local design guides

·Familiarisation with ongoing updates of National and Local Transport Policy

·Assisting with the preparation of reports

·External liaison with Clients, approving authorities and other professionals and representing SMA at meetings

·A commitment to Continuous Profession Development (CPD) and attendance on courses/seminars (as identified and agreed with the Line Manager)

·Maintenance of a high level of personal competency and knowledge of specialist topics and current best practices in transportation planning

·To co-ordinate work for junior staff

·To thoroughly check all work that has been delegated to others

·Assist with and organise in-house training of junior/new staff
