The Company

My client is a successful global company that provides a variety of on-site Laboratory Services to major pharmaceutical companies. As a result of continued growth and success, they now have an exciting new Lab Manager opportunity (operational only, no line management) at a respected pharmaceutical customer ideal for a communicative and influential chemistry scientist looking to take on operational responsibility for a well-equipped analytical and synthetic chemistry lab.

The Job

This position is a challenging, multi-faceted role where you will manage the operations of a well equipped analytical and synthetic chemistry lab and be the single point of contact for multiple people within a chemistry labs from scientists, to engineers to cleaners.

Using your organisational skills, you will liaise with multiple people to ensure the lab is running smoothly. Using lean methodologies, 5s etc. you will champion improvements to processes, improving efficiency, reducing time and cost, enabling the scientists to have more time and resources to carry out their core duties.

Some activities include:

- Working with suppliers to investigate deviations from SLAs by route cause analysis and report back findings and plans
- Assisting in development of SOP's for various assays particularly focused on reagents/consumables and cost saving recommendations
- Reviewing training of lab support staff
- Assisting with organised visits from internal/external partners and regulatory bodies.
- Maintaining and organising laboratory consumable inventories and provides reports to the Dept leadership team
- Performing laboratory inductions for internal/external and temporary lab users working in the area
- Providing operational support on projects to build understanding of business needs and identify opportunities for process improvements
- Facilitating visits of temporary lab users understanding their specific requirements

There will also be other activities related to equipment, facilities and health and safety.

About You

To apply for this role:

- You should be educated to a degree level or similar in Chemistry or pharmaceutical science with experience in a commercial chemistry lab
- Experience in a pharmaceutical GMP would be advantageous
- You will have experience with managing/supporting lab operations. For example, setting up a new lab, restructuring a lab, implementing process improvements using Lean sigma, CI etc
- You will have proven experience in a role with interaction and influencing other people
- Previous management experience is not essential but would be advantageous
