Planning Engineer/Production Engineer (Plastics/Injection Moulding)

Planning Engineer/Production Engineer £35,000 (Open to negotiation for right candidate) + Pension + 20 days holiday + Bank Holidays + Occasional travel abroad

Within this position you will the primary point of contact between the design and production team. You will be responsible for ensuring that plastic injection moulded products can be successfully taken through the production process and successfully manufactured.

The successful candidate will have worked within plastic manufacturing & will be able to read, understand and interpret drawings composed using 2D/3D CAD software. You will be confident taking these drawings through to production. This will involve dealing with suppliers, drawing up BOM’s and determining the tools required for production.

50% of your role will be office based alongside the design team; the remaining 50% will be on the shop floor work alongside the production manager. You will review bespoke designs/drawings, determine what materials are required (predominantly plastics, can also use wood and metal) and ensure products can be successfully taken through the production process. You will help set up production ready for new jobs, this will involve the manufacture of new jigs and fixtures. You will endeavour to streamline the production and assembly process ensuring maximum efficiency.

The company also have a manufacturing site in Asia, once you have settled into the position you will travel out 4-5 times a year, performing the same duties for this location.

This role reports into the Managing Director who is looking to take a step back from a hands on position. Long term you will have the opportunity to take on a junior team who will oversee quality of products and the company grows.

The role:

* Providing a link between design and production departments

* 50% office based, 50% on the shop floor

* Create BOM’s for production

* Ensure production have the necessary jigs and fixtures for manufacturing

* Monday – Friday 8:30 – 5:30

* Travel to Asia 4 – 5 times per annum.

The person:

* Production/Planning Engineer or from a similar transferable background.

* Must have strong plastics manufacturing knowledge.

* Must have injection moulding knowledge & those with experience of vacuum forming, laser cutting and plastic fabrication will be at a strong advantage and transfer extremely well.

* Can read and interpret 2D/3D CAD drawings

* Confident taking productions through to production and assembly

* Happy to travel worldwide when required
