Child Protection Social Worker - Low & Manageable Case Loads

A Local Authority who I have been working with for some time is now at a stage whereby it is looking to further increase its permanent workforce. Having previously had high caseloads the LA had brought in a number of locums to help reduce workloads and alleviate pressure of frontline teams. As caseloads have now dropped to an average of below 18 Children the Local Authority can now look to consolidate the stability of the service.

Currently managers within the service are all permanent members of staff who are able to offer weekly supervision to any Social Workers in their team. As a result members of the team feel more supported and confident in their work, they also feel as though they are able to approach their managers with any issues they may have.

Working in the service you will be taking cases following assessment and will see the cases through Care Proceedings where necessary. Unlike other Local Authorities in the area you will hold on to the case and work through the spectrum of Social Work services which means you will get the chance to develop experience in other areas such as LAC and Leaving Care. This has been one of the most quoted aspects of the job which current members of the team find really appealing. With caseloads in the region of 18 children, 40% are Child Protection cases and 60% are Children in Need cases with an average of 3 cases going through Care Proceedings.

As a permanent worker within the team you will have access to training and development material which is of highest quality and funded by the Local Authority. As a part of the Training and Development programme you will have the option to select a route to either go into management, Quality Assurance or Practice Education.

To be considered for this post you should have experience within a Court Work team.
