Our clients, a successful group of independent bodyshops are currently looking to appoint a Panel Technician for their site based in Doncaster.

Key Duties:

  • To jig / repair vehicles as per work instruction (via job card / Supervisor) using, where necessary workshop manuals, computer instructions or other job information sources, I.E. E-Scribe, Manufacturer Info.
  • To repair / replace vehicle panels, ensuring good fit / working order and quality checks before handing over to next working process.
  • To monitor & assist with the management of Work-In-Progress, liaising between Reception / other supervisors and staff members.
  • To control and order parts & sundry stock, liaising between suppliers and supervisors.
  • To assist in the general day to day management of Panel shop and its staff, liaising with supervisors.
  • To manage quality control checks on work processed through the Panel shop.
  • To monitor & maintain good housekeeping of Panel shop & general workshop, including storage areas.
  • To adhere to Company Standards (PAS 125 2007/ BSI Thatcham Kitemark) and working regulations, ensuring members of Panel shop staff also comply (Re: Induction / training).
  • To conform to Health & Safety working practices (as per Induction/training), ensuring staff compliance.
  • To monitor and administer Panel shop Personal Protective Equipment, replacing or ordering new parts as necessary.
  • Where necessary, to train Panel shop staff in areas of training need, where qualified to do so.
  • To carry out welding work, executing test piece prior to work on each vehicle.
  • To maintain and perform routine checks, ensuring good working order on workshop equipment, prior to use.
  • To maintain and log actions for any nominated equipment (as instructed).
  • To report any complications / delays / breakage’s / damages regarding Work In Progress / equipment to Partner &/or Reception.
  • At all times to protect and treat with care and respect all Customer & Company property.
  • Whenever necessary you may be requested to perform other duties outside of the above role, within reason. You will not be expected to carry out any duties for which you are not qualified / trained to do.

Job Requirements:

To perform the above duties adequately the position requires training in Motor Vehicle Body Repairs –You will possess or be willing to train for NVQ Level 3 in this area, or Senior Panel ATA.

You must have training in vehicle alignment with preferably 3 years experience. Experience in Mig Welding, & Spot Welding and High Strength Steels is necessary and you must hold a current welding certificate (BS1140 & BS4872). Along with certification for HSS and UHSS. You must hold certification in panel bonding techniques.

The position requires leadership of a team based working structure and therefore you will be a good team member and will possess good interpersonal skills. Being responsible for prioritising staff workload, you will be self-motivated and able to work on initiative. You must be confident, consistent and reliable and have the ability to delegate work fairly and effectively.

Possession of a full, clean Driving Licence is preferable and, due to the nature of the position, the ability to manoeuvre vehicles confidently around the workshop is essential.
