Location: Ampthill
Salary:Up to £85,000 P/A, plus excellent benefits including 25 days holiday, pension and a 9 day working fortnight

The Role
An excellent opportunity has arisen with an organisation based in Bedford who are looking for experienced Systems Engineering Manager, who will be the Senior Manager within the Systems Engineering group.

The Systems Engineering Manager will have a supporting role that is more focused towards people management and process rather than execution of a programme. The Systems Engineering Manager role will have a huge amount of variety, but maybe not suited to somebody looking for a role focused on solely technical delivery.

The Systems Engineering Manager will work as key member of the core engineering & technology leadership team, which is responsible for delivering compliant solutions to customers on time and in budget, whilst safeguarding the future. The Systems Engineering Manager will have responsibility of a team between 30 and 150 people.

Duties include (Full Job Description available)
*Undertaking the day to day management of a department of approximately 150 permanent and contract engineers (timesheets, holidays, training requirements, Personal Development Reviews, salary reviews, etc.)
*Development and execution of the engineering plans for all phases of the lifecycle. These plans must be consistent with the business processes.
*Refinement, institutionalisation and measurement of the engineering processes.
*Ensuring that the design and development tasks are undertaken using defined and agreed standards and methodologies, including the use of structured tools.
*Review and approval of the project EAC and BoEs for the engineering and quality work packages.
*Proactive implementation of process improvement initiatives to deliver opportunities to the business.
*Work with the business and functional team to plan and deliver the future technology requirements for the business.
*Development and implementation of recruitment and retention strategy in collaboration with HR business partners
*Development and delivery of Systems Engineering training

Required skills, qualifications and experience
*Degree qualified or equivalent in a science related or business subject
*A proactive team-builder who can motivate and lead by example.
*A skilled manager who can anticipate problems and plan to mitigate them.
*An able communicator in verbal, written and presentational forms.
*Able to manage and work within agreed budgets.
*A strong organizer who gets the most out of their people by keeping them directed and focused.
*Deep understanding of the Development lifecycle, and of relevant toolsets.

Desired skills, qualifications and experience
*Experience in building architectures (enterprise, capability, operational, systems, and information architectures)
*Knowledge of current Architecture Frameworks DoDAF, MoDAF, Zachman.
*Some experience of working directly with the military
